Karl Nicholas - Houston flood -

I know that it is probably too early to have any news, but I am worried about Karl's family in Houston. If anyone gets the word, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

I have plenty of friends and co-workers in the area (home office is there). I'm hearing from a few that it has been worse then some expected. One friend just sent email that between 9 pm and 5 am, he estimates they got between 23-25 inches of rain in just those 8 houirs. They are expecting up to 30 more inches by Tuesday. In feet that is 4-5 feet of water, just think how brutal we think it is when we get that much snow. Hopefully his family is on semi high ground, and have proper pumps if needed.

That storm is affecting a large swath of land and a lot of people. Note that the National Weather Service is calling it unprecedented.

In most disasters, even devastating ones, the damage can be random. One house demolished, the neighbor fine. Remember, in Katrina, the French Quarter came through pretty much unscathed.

But Houston? This is a horse of another color. The sheer volume of rain, combined with the fact water seeks its own level, means the damage will be widespread. This is a disaster unprecedented in American history.

Plus Pearland has had a history of flooding.I don't know what we can do to help his family, but I am sure they're going to need it.

All, as always it is great that GRIZ Nation cares. If his family needs assistance, make sure we know it is okay. Before doing anything, please contact the athletic office to have the U of M clear any fund raising through the NCAA. A few years ago, we did it perfect to assist Angel Villenueva's family.

The Houston area and everyone there are in my thoughts and prayers. To bad, we can't bring most that rain up here to help with our fires.
