New NCAA eligibility rule

Great rule that made a lot of sense. We will use this rule this year. Almost have to at a couple positions.

So we play freshman for the first 2-3 games. See if they are impact players. If not then we stick a RS on them or wait to see if we have injury issues

Those that may be good enough to compete their freshman year should receive lots of reps in practice but not used in a game except for one of the first three games and then not until injuries require their play or the second half of the season rolls in. This way you could keep their RS intact. If not required for injuries, then they should get at least four games at season end just for experience. If they play the 1st four games, they are done unless injury. Then their RS is gone.
This new rule will require more team management.

This rule change only goes so far.

The NCAA previously forced players to get permission from their old schools before others could contact them. It won’t do that anymore, but conferences still can. At least a few of them, including the SEC, have their own permission-to-contact rules, and the NCAA is clear: “Conferences, however, still can make rules that are more restrictive than the national rule.”

Not to get this into a GJ Thread. But it appears he can now transfer to a BSC school now

Incorrect. It's more about the fact players immediately go onto the national database (within 2 days of requesting a transfer) as opposed to waiting for current staff to give them the green light to talk to others. Conferences and coaches can still put restrictions on where they go.

Edit.....conferences will have final say, not coaches. My bad.

I read the NCAA announcement here:

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/new-transfer-rule-eliminates-permission-contact-process

It explains what I stated

Payton, it does get rid of blocking certain schools from contacting a player but ultimately the conference will dictate what happens. It will be interesting to see what the big sky does because they've been pretty strong against a player transferring from one big sky school to another

"Once October hits, athletes won't come across that same problem and will be able to choose from any school that wants to recruit them after they're entered into the database. The NCAA release does say, however, that conferences can still make rules within this process that are more restrictive than the national rule."

Most coaches wanted this rule change not to test ability early, but to fill in for injuries during the second half of the season.
