I hope Matt's 5.7 second 40 time can be improved, although as long as he is quick of the mark, I don't think it really matters.

Tho he does seem to be slow, he does not hesitate to get down field to block. He sure pushes people up front too. I trust our coaches can work on his foot work and strength conditioning, this kid could be a beast.

Kind of funny that he is an Ashland Grizzly...

ESPN Football Recruit Tracker LINK

Evaluation: If you are looking for big Lipski fits the bill. The kid from the Pacific Northwest has the distinction of being one of the biggest prospects in this class. He can get into a defender and deliver a pop. He is able to smother smaller defenders and push them off the line of scrimmage. When he has an angle he can wash a defender down. In a game and at a position where leverage is so key, Lipski is greatly leverage disadvantaged. He packs a wallop when he punches, but it is hard for him to get low and get under a defender?s pads. He is able to push around smaller defenders at the high school level, but there is concern about his ability to do the same with bigger and stronger defenders at the college level. He moves adequately for a big guy, but you also worry about his ability to handle quicker defenders. If he can get hands on he is tough, but he could struggle some in space. He would be limited to right tackle which he plays in high school. He displays the ability to punch and knock a rusher off stride and he poses a big obstacle to get around, but there is some concern about his ability to get back and handle speedy edge rushers. Also with his size, bigger rushers could get into his chest and push him back and knock him out of his cylinder. Lipski is a physical monster and he can create some lanes, but his size could work against him at times. Prospects like Lipski are not common and he displays enough skill that he is worth a good hard look.

If you watch the vids you'll notice he blows his man off the line of scrimmage and usually puts them down.

I am a little worried about all the reports that he his lack of speed might hinder his ability to stop fast, outside pass rushers. We have huge bodies on the OLine, and I don't seem them always able to match a speedy DE.

Iimagine the goal with Lipski will be to cut some weight, increase mobility and strength, and unleash his inner o-line beast.

Get him in the weight room and probably on some sort of diet plan and he could probably drop some weight, and add muscle and speed.

I don't know what his actual weight is 330 or 360 but if @ 360 he was able to cut 60lbs he might add a little speed and agility.

Look at the bright side (and his pic)..it'll take that DE 10 minutes to get around him regardless of speed....

Scott Gragg was from Silverton, OR. But I believe Matt Wells from Ashland.

At that size, if he had quick feet he wouldn't be coming to Montana.

Exactly, we get the projects and rejects. Any player with a bonified offer from an FBS school wouldn't come here unless they thought they would never play elsewhere.

It appears from his picture (and I mean this very politely), he will probably slim down when he gets into the program, and into the weight room. This should help.
