2012 Griz Football Recruiting Class/ Summer Transfers

I have a hard time believing that 110 hurdle time...that's a really, really fast time. The reason I have doubts about it is because well...he only runs a 4.9 40. I understand that for his size, that is pretty dang quick, but in general, not a very fast time. Especially since it's most likely a hand time, therefore you would figure it at about a 5.0-5.1 40 time. I'm sure he's a great athlete, but comparing him to a faster Dane Fletcher or a Jared Allen type is just silly.

Holmes took 4th at the state meet in the high hurdles. This is directly off his player bio below. I am guessing his 110 hurdle time is legit and his 40 time is probably too high.

"Tyrone Holmes, DL, 6-4, 265, Fr., HS, Eagle Point, Ore. (Eagle Point HS): Tyrone was the 2011 co-defensive player of the year in the Midwestern League as a senior...also first team all-state and all-league honors as a senior... first team all-league as a junior and sophomore....received first team all-league honors as an offensive lineman as a senior, and was a second team all-league performer the previous two years...also an excellent and versatile track athlete...defending state champion in the shot put and placed fourth in the state meet in the high hurdles."

Do you know how the times are measured? There could have been human error, or other environmental factors.

I can't seem to find it now but read that his 40 time was 4.7 not 4.9...more consistent with his reported hurdle time.

O.K., maybe comparing Holmes to a Jared Allen type is a stretch, Allen was 6'6", but I'm not, nor did I say anything about, their subsequent NFL careers; just forgo any of that association and go by what was stated: when Allen was with Idaho State and when Dane Fletcher was with MSU.

Dane Fletcher was a damn good player: in 2007 19 Tackles for loss, 51 Total Tackles, 3 Sacks. In 2009 67 Total Tackles, 7 Sacks along with two blocked kicks.

Granted, these are senior high school statistics but comparatively Holmes, variously listed from anywhere from 6'3" 235 lbs to 6'4" 265 lbs, recorded 68 Total Tackles, 12 Tackles for loss, 10 Sacks, 1 Int. 2 caused fumbles, two fumbles recovered; somewhat comparatively the same as Dane Fletcher had in 2009 playing for the MSU Bobcats, if not better, statistically speaking. < http://www.dailytidings.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111201/SPORTS/112010310" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Fletcher was involved in hockey and baseball during his high school years, for all I know, besides football, granted. I don't know if he ever had any exposure to Track & Field events at 6'2" 244 lbs. But Holmes, an All-Conference DE as a Sophomore and Junior has the strength enough to compare to All-Time State of Montana Shot Put records for both Class "A" and Class "B." And he hasn't had his senior season yet in that sports endeavor yet... < http://athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=848269" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; wherein is recorded a best in the Shot Put (12 lb) as 56' 3.5" - Class "A" all-time record is 57' 2" while the Class "B" is 56' 10." This along with playing basketball, involved in the 4x100 Relay, with a 11.64 in the 100 m and a 24.34 in the 200 m and a Discus (1.6 kg) of 138' 7."

Comparatively speaking, I don't think it's silly whatsoever; with the speed and size and game prowess, yes, a "speedier" version of a Dane Fletcher, Which, I think, he already is, speed and size wise, when he was with MSU; football prowess development, as stated earlier, Holmes "could possibly develop, though, as I said previously, that it is really too early to tell" at present, but the comparatives are there, if one cares to consider all factors. But who really knows how all will play out in the next five years? But it does sound like he has potential.

On to recruiting in 2013. The guy to get in Montana this year will be Gunnar Brekke. Could play RB or WR in the Griz offense. This kid is EXPLOSIVE with the ball. Dynamic in the return game as well, great punt returner.

I watched him play bball last weekend. He was much smaller than I had anticipated. He looked quick and athletic. Got T'd up for showing up the ref.

He's not a punk. Pretty good kid actually. Very competitive and a great athlete. I would love to see him as a griz.

Wasn't implying he was a punk in my initial post. Just looked very competitive and strongly disagreed with a foul call.

Why do you automatically assume their ilk is "lesser"? :roll:
