EWU's next QB

Screamin_Eagle174

Well-known member
Erik Meyer - Payton Winner
Matt Nichols - Payton Finalist
Bo Levi Mitchell - Payton Winner
Kyle Padron - ?

Padron (6'4 - 233), who beat out Bo Levi at SMU after BLM's injury in 2009 and led (won 5 of 7) the Mustangs to their first bowl and bowl win (45-10 beatdown of Nevada) since the Death Penalty in the 80s, has announced via twitter that he'll be following in BLM's footsteps (passing lanes?) and transferring to EWU.

Stats at SMU:
Padron: 23 games - 446/709 (63%) 41TDs/21INTs, 5902 yds, 7 rush TDs
Bo Levi: 19 games - 385/676 (57%) 36TDs/33INTs, 4590yds, 2 rush TDs

Gonna be fun watching him throw to 6-3 Greg Herd, 6-3 Nick Edwards, and 6-5 Brandon Kaufman.

EWU, the Delaware of the West.....

Has a great arm. Will be a big battle in Cheney.

I thought the Griz already had that title? Swogger, Roper, Middleton, Nate Montana, Moutra, etc etc :thumb:

Problem with Montana is that UD and EWU get drop down that can actually play (QB that is). Montana gets the ones they hope can and then usually get beat out by the kids they recruited in the first place..... :?

 True.

One of the best things about this is that even though they're friends, Padron is gonna wanna out-do Mitchell, so there's that extra motivation. :D

EWU needs more than a miracle QB to get back into the top. Come next November lets the exscuses begin for why things EWU has 4-5 loses.

 Yeah, okay.

Because of the injuries, 46 different players started in the 2011 season – 24 on offense and 22 on defense – with only five players starting all 11 games. A total of 21 players made starting debuts during the season, and the Eagles expect to return eight starters on each side of the ball, plus the team’s starting punter.

I'm sure losing 3 or 4 starting OL in the first few games didn't have anything to do with it... Just as I'm sure the Griz losing half their starters to graduation(almost all on D) won't hinder them at all.

Frat kid - you've mentioned I went to a Junior College (UNC) and yet you can't even form a coherent sentence. At least my "junior college" professors taught me how to form correct sentences.

As for the Eagles, they'll challenge MSU for the conference title. The new QB looks pretty good but hasn't he struggled with injuries?

My initial reaction is:

This league is full of great QBs. This is just another.

Doesn't change my predictions at all. Ewoo will be good, maybe even very good. Montana and perhaps msu will be better.

I thought Drew Miller (BYU) was a pretty good Qb for the Griz. Not overly tall at only 6 foot, but a good player. Swogger and Roper were just ok......but overall, I'd say UM has had pretty good succes with the majority of the transfers they've brought in, not just at Qb.

I'm not averse to bringing in transfers that are good players, as long as they don't bring a bunch of baggage with them, are willing to work hard, and represent the program well. Some are maybe high risk/high reward, but bottom line is if you want to be a program that contends for the playoffs every year, sometimes you've gotta roll the dice a little. You look at a program like Delaware maybe, and they have relied heavily on transfer Qb's. But at the same time, it's hard to argue with the results. Very few programs at the FCS level have had the string of quality Qb's they've had. Going back to around 2002 EWU could probably make that claim
as well going from Blankenship through Mitchell.

Only this last season from what I've been able to gather. Tweaked his back while lifting, but what sidelined him most of the year was an ankle injury.

Funny, that's pretty close to my reaction to statements like yours, especially considering the amount of starters the Griz lost.

Hey, as I stated, I think Eastern will be very good. But like always, this league runs through Missoula. Yes, replacing the D will be difficult, but UM has had to do that kind of thing repeatedly over the last 25 years, with pretty damn positive results.

I just don't think a transfer QB is going to make a marked difference.

But since you obviously posted it on our board with the clear intention for us to give you feedback about how scared and shit we all are, I do appologize for disppointing you.

You're right - the Big Sky is a very Qb-centric league. The Sorenson kid from SUU might be the best Qb in the Big Sky - for those that haven't seen him play, he is very good.

As for EWU, Padron may or may not be the next heir apparent/Payton-level Qb. But what I will say is that decent Qb's really flourish in EWU's offense - Baldwin is a Qb guy. Add to it that he's going to have three 1,000 yard receivers to throw to and what should be a better O-line and running game, and I'll say I'm mildly optimistic for 2012. But I'm not going to go out on a limb and say KP is going to light people up from the get-go. Mitchell struggled early on in 2010 going from the run and shoot to EWU's spread/pro-style offense, but really came on towards the middle of the season. In 2011 he was just on a different level. We'll just have to see how things pan out. KP won't even be on campus until summer since he has to finish up Spring semester at SMU.

 Fair enough.

Obviously I do think a transfer QB is going to make a marked difference, considering BLM's success, and that Padron looks to be a head (literally) above BLM at this point. Not to mention we have 16 starters + punter returning, and tons of depth all around because of last year's injury plague. All from a team that once they got those backups in place, went 6/7 down the stretch. As Ranger mentioned, there's also the run game that should be a lot better this year with the experience our young backs gained last year and the depth on the OL. The injuries, true freshman, and not having TJ hampered us last year. There's a lot of reason for optimism in Eagle Nation.

the first sentence is speculation/sarcasam. the second is truth.

Might want to get your dyslexia diagnosed. :thumb:

I am so glad creamin eagle is ok. After spending the entire off season proclaiming the Grizzlies were a thing off the past, he disappeared after the season started. Glad to see an fbs transfer ressurected you AND your program. Best of luck.

In that stretch, EWU gave up 21/28/27/35/43/51/14.

Ya'll might want to think about a drop down DEFENSIVE player instead of a QB.

Iteresting side note that perhaps proves EWU gets up for the Griz like nobody else: The ONLY team on EWU's schedule last year that scored FEWER points than Montana was Idaho State in the last game of the year.

Typical AZ spin. That proves nothing. At that point, we still had Matt Johnson, Zach Johnson and Renard Williams playing and not out with injuries. Also, the Griz were still figuring out their offense. As the year went on, we kept losing players. A total of 22 started on defense by the season's end. Kind of hard to get the other team off the field when you're missing your best LB, best S, and best DL, among others.
