Thirteen seed!

I am sticking with 13, and hoping the teams we played this year, with conference tournaments left to play, will win a few games to help our RPI. Also hoping the remaining mid majors we have not played will choke in their tournament games. Basically, lesser teams win tournaments to fill lower seeds, and put us in a better seed.

11 or 12 seed? No way. We are in 13 or 14 seed range here is our competion for those seeds as projected by ESPN (not going to post 11 & 12 seeds, we aren't in there league resume wise):

Projected 13 seeds
South Dakota State: 25-7 (w. 19 pt win over Washington who was Pac12 reg season champs) 49 rpi
VCU: 28-6, 38 rpi
Nevada: 25-5 (w. win over Montana) 46 rpi
2 play in at large teams

Projected 14 seeds
Belmont: 27-7 (w. 1 pt loss to Duke) rpi 61
Davidson: 25-7 ( w. win over Kansas) rpi 65
Akron: 21-10, rpi 62
Bucknell 24-9, rpi 84

Montana, 25-6, rpi 82, 223rd SOS, 1-2 against rpi top 50, 3-3 agains rpi top 100 (w. 2 of those over Weber)

We look good right now, but we play in a weak conference with a weak schedule. Not going to impress objective committee members, of which most haven't seen us play. They look at the numbers and impressive wins and bad losses (body of work). Weber State isn't going to get their attention. Long Beach State really is our only big win. 14 strait wins will help. North Dakota was a bad loss. I predict a 14 seed. 13 seed would be a welcome surprise.

South Dakota State also lost to North Dakota...by 19. They have 6 other "bad" losses including a loss to South Dakota (who has a worse RPI than North Dakota).

One thing the committee has shown these past few years is RPI doesn't mean everything. So while a few of our losses early in the season look bad... many of the other 12, 13 and 14 seeds have just as bad of losses if not worse (or more). Finishing the season 20-1 with a 14 game winning stream has to turn some heads and get us a little boost with the committee...

... Is it Sunday yet? :P

I shall 'Tebow' right now for mtgrizrule...... I agree the Griz are a legit 11 or 12 seed. How can a 14 mid major team get anything less???? Especially after tonight...but the committee wants more well known seeds and sadly the BSC may never get higher.. Interestingly Long Beach State may get a MUCH higher seed when we beat them on their HOME court??? Huh??

I am finishing my Tebow right now so give me a minute or two.....

We beat LBSU on OUR home court, not theirs. Still, it was a good win. The North Dakota loss is what is going to screw us if any loss does.
Long Beach is falling fast..going into their conf. tourney, their big guy rolled his ankle and will not play..Fullerton is the favorite..and Long Beach's win at Pitt is looking weaker...But, why those two are fading, UM and Weber both gave a show tonight that the Big Sky is no joke...Montana especially looked better than anyone on TV this day...maybe the place LB is taking will be a slot for the Griz...would love to see both of them, but....

I know the collegeinsider.com mid-major poll is a little skewed having BSC voters on the panel, but if the NCAA selection committee just went by that:

Conference Autobids currently above Montana (#14):
1. Murray State (Ohio Valley)
2. Creighton (Missouri Valley)
5. Saint Mary's (West Coast)
7. VCU (Colonial)
10. Harvard (Ivy)
13. Belmont (Atlantic Sun)

Conference Autobids currently below Montana (#14):
16. Davidson (Southern)
20. South Dakota State (Summit)
22. LIU Brooklyn (Northeast)
23. Loyola, MD (Metro Atlantic)
NR. Detroit (Horizon)
NR. Lehigh (Patriot)
NR. UNC Asheville (Big South)

Also, Western Kentucky won the Sun Belt autobid but ended with a 15-18 record. I would assume they would get a 15 or 16 seed.

So, just from that, there are 8 teams considered worse and the Griz should have no worse than a 14 seed (no surprise). And their seed should only improve depending on if upsets happen in other conferences.

I personally think we will end up with a 13 seed (although, having followed this team, believe a 11 or 12 seed would be deserved).

The thing that helped us get a 12 seed in '06 (besides the Stanford win and regionalization) was that we had a great showing the year before as a 16 seed against UW. Not making it last year could hurt the team this year.

With Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton being 1 of the 10 on the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee this year, you would have to think he would give us a solid seed.

You can say the Griz feel like an 11 or 12, but you have to look at the rest of the teams in it. Here's a list of the 31 conference leaders, including teams that have clinched in bold, by current RPI:

1-13 seeds
1 Syracuse (Big East)
2 Kentucky (SEC)
3 North Carolina (ACC)
5 Michigan State (Big Ten)
6 Kansas (Big 12)
12 Temple (Atlantic-10)
18 Memphis (C-USA)
24 Creighton (Missouri Valley)
25 Murray State (Ohio Valley)
26 San Diego State (Mountain West)
31 St. Mary's (West Coast)
35 Long Beach State (Big West)
36 Harvard (Ivy League)
44 Virginia Commonwealth (CAA)
45 Nevada (WAC)
48 South Dakota State (Summit League)
59 Washington (Pac-12)

14 seeds
62 Akron (MAC)
63 Belmont (Atlantic Sun)
66 Davidson (Southern)
75 Montana (Big Sky)

15 seeds
79 Loyola (MAAC)
87 Long Island (Northeast)
102 Texas-Arlington (Southland)
103 Lehigh (Patriot League)

16 seeds
113 UNC-Asheville (Big South)
127 Detroit (Horizon League)

16/17 seeds
133 Norfolk State (MEAC)
144 Stony Brook (America East)
154 Mississippi Valley State (SWAC)
191 Western Kentucky (Sun Belt)

We don't know how the committee would seed them, but it looks like the only thing that could possibly help us at this point is if a dark horse wins the WAC or MAC. Otherwise, we're probably locked in to whatever we have now.

I do not care about the seed.

Once you're in the tournament, the goal is to win the tournament, and to win the tournament, you have to play and beat the best.

Bring it on.

...and 25 winz..the conference..the tournament..the dance...
...just want to see them play defense a couple more timez...
...an would have loved to hear tinkle motivate at half time...

... 8-) ...

As of late Wednesday night, ESPN's Joe Lunardi projected the Grizzlies as the No. 15 seed playing No. 2-seeded Missouri in the first-round in Omaha, Neb.

Like Coach tinks said, of course we hope for a good seed (12 or 13) but what it really comes down to is matchups. Like we saw in this conf tourney, nobody would argue weber is a much better team than eastern...yet eastern gave us fits, and weebs was a peice of cake, pretty much the last 2 games we played aganist them were pretty decisive...Without having a "true" post/enforcer down low it really does come down to matchups i think..Big quick long athletic post players are very tough on us....if we play a team that is more of a guard oriented team i really like our chances, A LOT...I know we want a good seed but im sure there are going to be some 3 seeds out there that we match up better with than a 4 or 5....I am really hoping for a good seed, but what i am really praying for is a team we match up with.

give us a match up buddy!!! haha and we will spin some fkn heads! with that said, if we shoot like we did lastnight...not sure it matters haha...one thing i think is huge is our boys come out strong, and not tight and caught up in the moment...they have to realize we are free rolling right now, nothing at stake, nothing on the line....come out and have fun and play..the 4 seed or who ever we play has ALL the pressure...i remember back in 2005 ...we outscored the 1 seed UW for 38 of 40 mins and lost by ten...we played tight, scared basketball for 2 mins and they started the game with a 20-2 run....if we can avoid that (which im very confident we will cuz this team knows how to win games) we are dangerous

I feel this team is a legit 11 or 12 seed. However, reality is best we get is a 13, 14 maybe. No way we are a 15.

I agree, we have a legit shot at a 12 seed. The selection committee looks at favorably at teams that are winning a lot in Feb - March and 14 wins in a row is hard to ignore. Second, the selection committee does look at the Bracketbusters, thumping the WAC helps. Third, the selection committee likes regional match ups, which is why we drew Nevada that year, there are some intriguing match ups in the West this year. Fourth, the selection committee does look at the College Mid Major poll, and we are currently sitting pretty and quickly moving up. Fifth, a lot of traditional tourney teams are bust this year, some are saying Minnesota and U Conn are out. Sixth, and I may be wrong, but I believe Fullerton is on the selection committee. I know he is supposed to be neutral... but damnit Doug, fish or cut bait.

no, no, we would not have won a game in 2006 had we not been a 12 seed. and we're not gonna beat a one or two seed this year. chance against a three, much better chance against a four. this is the big dance, not the 1-aa playoffs. the seed makes a big difference. just ask a tomato.

seed does make a difference, but there are teams out there we flat out do not match up with...you can rule out 16 seed, thats not an issue..and same with 15...we arent going to be a 15....im sure there are going to be some 5 seeds that present worse match up problems than some 4 seeds...in all reality all we can hope for is a good seed and favorable matchup..
