Altitude factor? Don't count on it...

Postby Silvertip » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:50 pm

Albuquerque 5,314 ft. avg... Boulder 5,430 and Laramie a whopping 7,165 and I've seen numerous sea level visitors kick the crap out of both Colorado and Wyoming in both football and basketball. (Most recently Stanford in Boulder) Has a Griz loss to NAU ever been hung on playing at 7,000 ft? I don't think so. Anyhow, get to town a couple of days ahead of time and the old corpuscles start kicking out more oxygen. If you're counting on the Badger's struggling with thin air-gasping lungs fuggetaboutit...

That's nothing, UM has beaten NAU like 100 times in Flagstaff during my lifetime. :)

I believer that you are correct....comes down more to conditioning, depth....and heard or read somewhere that tv coverage is more commercial heavy in tournament giving more time for players to catch their breath.

...and if, and a big IF atltitude does come into play..it takes more than a few days to acclimate....usually 7-10 days for the whole deal to factor in...I suspect the Badgers are in pretty good shape, but a mauling may be in store if we continue our hot streak.

Actually I dont see altitude as a real big factor either. But if the game is close many will use it as an exscuse for a Badger loss IMO.

As far as adjusting to altitude I think it really varies person to person from 1-7 days, least thats what I had heard.

Madison Wis is at about 1000 ft and Missoula is 3200 so it is a fair difference but with wisconsin playing at a slower pace, rotating more people into the game and the commercial breaks it might negate this advantage.

Actually not a lot of data on short term exposure (1-7 days) and acclimation.

With that being said, if Wisconsin is a slow down sort of team, that will negate a lot of the effects - don't think it will make much difference.

"...100 times in Flagstaff during my lifetime...?" with 50 or so home and home games over half a century of the BSC plus maybe a couple of tournament games - maybe? You really are a fossil. :wtf:

Well, that includes football, golf, women's basketball, tennis, etc. But yeah, I am old. Probably almost as old as you.

A college friend of mine came from Cincinnati and played a basketball game at Tech. After the game he told me that the altitude really affected him. He was a able to play through it but it made it harder
So Let me get this straight.....Muslim terrorists fly planes into buildings and we are not supposed to judge all Muslim's for the actions of a few. A few crazy Americans commit heinous acts with guns but it is OK to condemn all gun owning Americans.. there is our congress for you.
