Jake Wiley 6'6"/ 6'7" combo forward from washington. has no real position but is a big time athelete and real good defender. needs to get stronger and figure out what he is but he has big time upside.

Hoping for a couple of those myself, if that's at all possible. At least someone that isn't afraid of his own shadow once he hits the court.

A question for those "in the know" or who have observed much Griz practice - Does walkon Nick Emerson have a chance to receive a scholarship? Will he still be with the team next season? It would be nice to have one MT lad on the team. Just curious. Thanks ahead of time.

And please don't turn this into a urination competition about who knows who and who should shut up about it.

Go Griz!

Thanks for a great season!

I haven't seen Emerson play since the 2 scrimmages. At that very early point in his career he looked great. Very confident and had a nice shot.

I imagine this is a typo and may be an actual player for the Cats, but Yahoo has him on our roster, so, who is Morgan Young there at the bottom?

Not a typo, a walk on for the GRIZ this year. Not sure how he did. He is in the GRIZ team picture in the NCAA media guide, but not listed on the roster though.

He was suited up and on the bench for all of the home games. I have not heard anything about him and I don't recall him being discussed on here. Come to think of it, I don't recall hearing about him in high school either.

Andy Martin, #42 in Black , recent game against Brewster. I haven't watched the whole thing yet.

i dont have any thing to give other than an opinion, but i would think he is on the team next year....he has a great looking shot, 6'5 and he seems very athletic..i only saw him during warm ups so its hard to know based off that, but he looks like he has a lot of potential

I like the kid who uploaded the video selling/describing himself in the description under video. Also a couple blue chip recruits play for brewster, mitch mcgary #33, committed to michigan and tj warren #32, to nc state. both were recruited and offered by my tar heels. so i like the competition he is facing.

Morgan Young is a walk on from Lustre who I believe attended an out of state prep school. He has a reputation as a shooter but watching him shoot and move during warm ups makes me think he may have trouble adjusting to the speed of the college game. Just my observation and I could be totally wrong. My apologies to Morgan if I'm off base.
On the other hand the coaching staff is pretty excited about Nick Emerson and feel that got a steal when he decided to walk on. He has good court sense and a nice looking three ball. Don't be surprised if he is given a scholarship before next year.

Well, I know you can't teach height, but he looked slow and outclassed, IMHO (realizing he's a "project').

Can a prep school recruit be redshirted or does the prep school year count as a redshirt? They say you have 5 years to play 4 seasons and the clock starts ticking when you graduate. I'm assuming that's HS, not prep school, right?

Prep school is the same.

You have 5 years to play 4 once you enroll in college. Prep school isn't considered college.

Az,

I agree and disagree with your assesment on Martin. I saw two things that impressed me about the kid, he can run the floor. Most 7 footers have to be yanked up the floor in high school, and he doesn't. He has good laterlal movment. He isn't a bolted in the paint and he isn't afraid to be physical. He lost most of those battles.

That being said, at this moment, he needs to put on a ton of strength. He isn't an offensive threat, but that offensive system they ran was brutal. They are using a 7 foot kid to make picks 25 feet away from the basket. He didn't get very many touches where he could display post moves.

On another note, what is with the officiating in that league. Pretty brutal. The martin kid sets a viable screen, and to get to the shot those kids just made bull runs through the kid. Last time I checked from my own officiating handbook, that is a foul. On another occasion, a kid gets tackled in the key, ball goes out of bounds and the ball goes the other way.

If I were get an impression about this league and team, these kids are showing off to recruiters to get schollies. Lots of individual break downs on offense, some terrible examples of defense. For the most part I thought Martin played within himself.

I like the kid. Doesn't strike me as terrible, but I think he probably needs a year of weights in his lower body to be more effective.
He is a project, but I am not sure he is in the area of Don Carter project.

I agree. He wasn't uncoordinated. He was soft, but the reffing was brutal. At one point he gets knocked about 15 feet on his ass when setting a screen, but no foul called. In fact, I don't think there was a foul called in the 10+ minutes of video I watched.

Come in, RS, hit the weights...would sure love to see some video where he actually touches the ball. :?

Here are a couple targets for the spring that I lifted them from the mslacat. I looked for video and couldn't find any on either of them.

Edrico McGregor 6'8" pf/c from North Idaho College.

Rafriel Guthrie 6'2" g from South Idaho College.

Sounds like Rafriel and Keron have a lot in common. If he winds up here it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Prep school (which is basically a 5th yr of HS) does not start the NCAA clock. Nor does just enrolling in college, if you just enroll part-time (less than 12 credits) that is.

The clock only starts once a student enrolls full-time at a college (JC or 4-yr institution).
