Eric Matthews QB - Blinn College JC (TX)

Can they pull jj's scholarship for this season based on the fact that no one knows how long this debacle will take? Use the scholarship on this kid and if jj comes back you have more competition, if not you have a replacement. Although if jj can't play i would just like to see the coaches use the qb's already here. If they were good enough for a scholarship then let them play.

Griz are also chasing the JC QB from Cali pretty hard as well. They must know something.

The something that they know is that the student conduct board either unanimously or almost unanimously voted against JJ. The vote was not even close. Couple this with all the other hype going on around these parts and it makes it almost impossible for Engstrom to overturn the decision even if he wanted to (which he most likely doesn't). Barring a miracle, JJ is for all practical purposes gone. Most people at the people at the University or otherwise involved with this situation know this. He can fight the decision through the federal courts, but that would take years. It's really a sad case, as pretty much everyone who knows the kid says he's an upstanding individual.

Irish Duck, I see you are hearing some of same info as I am regarding the JC QBs. You have a name on the Cali QB?

Not true. It's up to the regents at this point and they won't uphold the expulsion without charges being brought against JJ. Actually most people at UM fully expect JJ to be under center for UM against USD in the opener.

I concur with Hammer - same info I've heard .... but nobody really knows until 1:05 or is it 1:35 on Sept 1st.....

I don't know much, except here's a summary of the persistent rumors. The panel, composed of 4 students and 3 faculty/administrators, voted against JJ several weeks ago, supposedly on a 5-2 vote. This was just another step in the process, and is not the end of the process. Note that this was applying the recently lowered, and presumably illegal, standard. Illegal in the sense that it was changed and applied after-the-fact. The board also reported that the panel refused to review the texts from the accuser that were favorable to JJ. Someone higher up, perhaps Christian, has told Enstrom not to uphold the decision, at least not yet. This is probably why the curious press release was put out by the university system. If JJ were expelled, prior to a charge by the county attorneys office, there would be a s-storm and major league criticism. There could also be a lawsuit. Some believe a case based on the fact the U changed its legal and other standards after-the-fact, combined with other process problems, would go in JJ's favor. Some also think JJ would have a potential major league lawsuit for damages. Some think the county attorneys office has not charged him, because they realize they don't have the normal facts for charging and wouldn't win the case. However, the office has the feds breathing down their necks and focusing on this incident. Some think this could make claim for damages even better, and bigger.

JJ's attorney is top notch. He's gotten at least one major victory with damages against the city.

If JJ gets through this, he will be a great qb for the Griz. He will be mentally tougher than any qb UM has ever had. I'm rooting for JJ. Due process is very important. I want him to get through this for himself, not for UM football.

I feel for JJ, he got sh#t faced at the ball (violation of code of conduct) and let testosterone take over. That mistake has and will continue to deeply affect the lives of many.
One thing I still do not understand is why people can not separate the legal system from the Universities and the athletic dept code of conduct.
One is not reliant on the other.

My sentiments exactly!

JJ was not at the FB the night of this "incident". Even if he had been, it was not a violation of anything. What I can't understand, is the dumbasses like yourself who post incorrect things or just make them up.

While I do not doubt the veracity of those claiming to have heard insider info as to JJ's status, why on earth would the coaches be heavily recruiting not one, but two JC QB's if they knew JJ was going to stay?

Here are the scenarios as far as my limited thinking takes me:

1. The coaches have no idea if JJ is gone or not. Therefore, they are recruiting these two as insurance policies in the case JJ is gone. But if he stays are they promising an open competition against the QB that took the Griz to the semis? What recruit would take that deal?

2. The coaches have a pretty good idea that JJ is coming back, for the reasons Hammer/PR have stated. But then it makes zero sense as to why they are recruiting these two so hard.

3. The coaches know JJ is gone. Therefore they need a QB fast and heavily recruiting two successful JC QB's makes perfect sense.

Irish Duck - Obviously #3 is the most likely scenario. I am by no means saying JJ is 100% gone, but why would the coaches be recruiting 2 JC QBs unless they thought there was a good chance he wouldn't be suiting up next year??? The coaches would be foolish to not have more of a backup plan than 2 redshirts and GK, who despite being a remarkable athlete hasn't been able to put it together after 3 years worth of chances.

PR gets testy late into the night. I'd hate to see what would happen if he got fed after midnight... ;)

I don't think being at the FB is a violation. Being wasted and underage is a violation. But i have no idea if he was there or drinking.

JJ hates PR. That should tell you something about PR's credibility.

Could be showing my age (in terms of being younger) but if we get Mr. Matthews does his mentor Mr. Feeny come with?

A few days ago the football coaches stated "JJ's status is up in the air. Further they stated UM had about a 50-50 chance of getting a transfer QB and I assumed it had to do with the end result of JJ's problems.
Further, Rosey stated he would go with the QBs on hand and do just fine. A transfer "might" help he stated and I took that as an insurance against injury etc. and perhaps a kid that could take us to the promised land. In other words if the new kid works out, fine, if not we will go with what we have.

What? You did an end-around on this one! You posted a lot but said nothing.
