I heard that too and was a little surprised he was on their radar. I've watched him play numerous times and did see big improvement last year. He will remain a project in my opinion but has nice hands, touch, and footwork. Sometimes I think people forget about size being a factor in itself and he has that. I think Edwards will have to get a little quicker to be able to take advantage and block shots like he has in HS.

Kudos to Ryan Edwards. He must have listened to those telling him what he needed to do. A year ago, I was at the team camp. Then, he was nowhere near a mid major Div 1 recruit. I seen a kid with good size, average athleticism, good hands, okay feet, good feet, good passer. He was not very physical, and got by simply on his size, verses his competition.

Offense was inconsistent, with some very nice looking shots, moves, and touch. The next time down court, very rushed, and no touch. Apparently, he spent a lot of time on his offense. Defensively he was pretty good, and very seldom out of position, just some work on footwork, and how to go up straight, to avoid foul trouble (pretty typical of many bigs at his stage.)

Basically, I seen the high ceiling for him, but did not know how much work he would put in to get to that point. Congrats Ryan, hope to see you in a GRIZ uniform.

I thought he made a big step forward from his So. year to his Jr. year. Another step up like that and then a redshirt year and he could do some things.

Well this thread is perhaps the most confusing thread I've seen in some time. We see that he committed to Gonzaga, and then someone else thinks he's not D1 material, and another thinks he committed to the Griz. The big question is has he committed anywhere? I see nothing official.

Ryan gave a solid Commitment to Gonzaga.
Montana and Washington State were the two others on his short list
Ryan did not get out on the AAU circuit much so, most of his recruiting came from Northwest D-1 schools
Ryan is a definitely a D-1 prospect only question is at what level.

As much as I would like to Montana get a home grown big, I think you are selling Gonzaga short. They have more NBA bigs than we do. Turiaf, has been around awhile now. This year, Robert Sacre was just drafted too. Sorry, but their recent bigs have gone further than Montana Bigs.

Got to admit, Tinkle gets the most out of his bigs during college, but has yet to coach a NBA big. Qvale is as close as we have come.

good for him, he will need some freshman seasoning once at GU, but with patience and coaching he could be a steady player. His biggest asset is that he has the bulk and size to take up some defensive space, his inside shot is good and he can get his share of rebounds.

But, the quickness of the D1 game will be a test for him and GU plays a big time schedule too. I think they bring him along with patience and he will be an asset once he adjusts to the speed of the bigger time.

Never seen the kid play and know absolutely nothing about him, but I'd have to agree. Kids that are 7 feet with strength and good feet are worth a scholarship. The fact that this kid was able to recieve out of state interest from High major programs without playing in the AAU circuit is telling and Gonzaga has always been know for doing a great job of scouting under-the-radar recruits with good potential.

Not me talking, but a college coach named Mark Few disagrees, and thinks he is a D1 player. Thanks for the inside information from a high school coach whom you respect, though. I trust your insider information on talent much more so than a coach who has sent seven guys to the NBA.

He IS a D-1 kid. He held at least 4 offers from D-1 programs that I had heard, so that questions has been answered. I saw him play a few times last year and I had my questions. I but there was no doubt in my mind he would be playing D-1 ball down the line. My major concern was his foot speed and conditioning. He does though have a lot of attributes coaches love to see in Big kids, soft hands good foot work, and decent lateral movement. Big up side to him as long as he gets and stays in shape. Last year I really thought he would most likely sign with the Griz and then redshirt a year for development and conditioning. I will admit, Gonzaga offering surprised me.

Come on, dude. 7-footers don't grow on trees! Almost every 7-foot high school player in the country who can walk and chew gum at the same time gets a D-1 offer. You aren't telling us anything. I stick by my prediction. The coach who told me he is not a D-1 player is the head coach for a AA school in Montana. Mark Few is taking a flier on this kid, just like Tinks has done with our signee from Casper, WY.

Tinks hoped to sign him, but knew it would be tough once the kids name got out there. He mentioned to me that had he played AAU he would have received offers from most schools on the West Coast. He is a project, but there are only 3-4 true centers in this recruiting class, which makes his stock that much higher. Still think he would optimize his potential better at UM then GU.. Tinks can develop/coach big men with the best of them.
