Next Griz Football Coach

Big time college football is a ce$$pool.

"LSU has hired Notre Dame's Brian Kelly as its new head coach, replacing Ed Orgeron. Kelly agreed to a 10-year deal worth $9.5 million per year, plus incentives. LSU confirmed the hire on Tuesday morning. Kelly will be introduced in a news conference at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday."

"When Brian Kelly was asked on Nov. 22 whether he would ever leave Notre Dame for another school, he claimed he wouldn't.
Indeed, Kelly went so far as to channel Steelers coach Mike Tomlin in saying why he wouldn't leave Notre Dame for anything short of a "fairy godmother" coming by with a $250 million check — at which point he may ask his wife."
Evidently, his wife is a LSU fan.

Lincoln Riley is a mystery, taking over Bob Stoops highly successful program. Now, ol Bob will lead the team again in this post-season(and beyond???).
Guess the loss to Oklahoma State was just too big to overcome. His former QB, Rattler, has already said he was entering the transfer portal. Look at the money involved. MY GOD!!!

Lincoln Riley USC contract details (not confirmed; best I could do):
- $110 million
- USC buying both his homes in Norman for $500,000 over asking ($1 million bonus)
- Buying a $6 million home in LA for him
- Unlimited use of the private jet 24/7 for family

Character. Integrity. Neither have either. Kelly didn't have the goddamned common decency to tell his players and coaches IN PERSON, leaving the AD to notify them. "ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick said he communicated to Irish assistant coaches that they should stay on the road recruiting and continue to visit with prospects. An interim head coach has not been named yet.
Kelly sent a message to Notre Dame in Team Works on Monday night apologizing for the way that the news of his leaving broke and that he wasn't able to tell the team himself. He met with the Notre Dame team at 7 a.m. ET Tuesday."

Back in 2003 when the Griz were looking at hiring a new head coach after Joe Glenn bolted, lots of people in the know wanted Brian Kelly from Grand Valley state to be the guy. Instead we got Hauck and have been kicked in the arse since. The story writes itself

Now that Kelly has chosen LSU he will start stacking national championships while we settle for a guy that chose UNLV. Kelly would have won there.

So, who gets the nod next time? Nepotism and average outcomes? Or the best coach for the job?

Totally agree. Let’s meet up on campus and protest. Oh, wait…

Go for broke.

I say we go for Nick Saban after he retires from Bama. No way he will want to stay retired.

Urban Myer is a good pick too. He could even open a bar and stop by it every now and then to keep an eye on things. He could call it the “Rural Myer Bar”.

How could you rubes leave off Bill Belichick? Dude loves fly fishing.

Cheats at that too, uses worms.

Former Offensive Coach for the Griz Johnathan Smith just got a nice raise...

hey Special H, you should slow down a little bit. Ssssssslllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwww down.

. . . Jets coach Robert Saleh only worked at Central Michigan with Brian Kelly for one year, as a defensive assistant in 2004, and it was not a happy one. Saleh and now-Packers coach Matt LaFleur, the older brother of Jets coordinator Mike LaFleur, were on Kelly’s staff as low-level assistants in their 20s. According to a 2019 ESPN article, they thought they were invited to a party at Kelly’s house, only to realize they were the help. “We shoveled the snow and parked all the cars,” Saleh told ESPN in 2019, when he was still the 49ers’ defensive coordinator. “Then, at the end of the night, we had to go get the cars again.” In an article published in 2020, Kelly did call Saleh “special,” but also seemingly went out of his way to tell an embarrassing story about Saleh passing out from dehydration.

It’s the classic high-handed, shameless behavior from Kelly that everyone has gotten to know from him over his rise from the mid-majors to Notre Dame coach. And it’s one of many anecdotes that recirculated this week after Kelly bolted on Notre Dame for LSU, made his former players meet him at 7 a.m. the next day, and left campus after 11 minutes. Kelly obviously has more serious stains on his record, like Lizzy Seeberg’s suicide after accusing a Notre Dame player of sexual assault and Declan Sullivan’s death while filming Notre Dame practice in high winds. And unlike the players Kelly is so fond of trashing, at least Saleh and LaFleur were adults getting paid to be there. But it’s a neat encapsulation of the type of guy Kelly is, and it left such an imprint on Saleh that he was willing to trash his old boss to a reporter over a decade later. In fact, Saleh told ESPN that Kelly was the gold standard for a bad employer.

Typical ejizz responses.

None of the coaches you idiots posted would ever want the Montana job but Kelly did at one time. He soared into the college football elite and we are stuck with a retread that cant win big games. Its proven.

Enjoy the stupidity of your comments, nobody else is. The cumulative football IQ on this board is a 2 out of 10. My 8 is sucked down by vapid idiocrasy by the usual suspects.

Cat games are never big games. For them its their superbowl, for us its no different than kicking Northern Colorados ass again and again.

How many big games has Kelly won?

Plenty, he built a program at Central Michigan
He built a program at Cincinnati
He made Notre Dame relevant after a 30 hiatus

Kelly walk right into LSU with the most talented QB in the nation who will be a sophomore next year. Returns a stable of senior WRs and a very good running back. LSU loses 3 seniors on the DL but depth has all the pieces Kelly needs to have a very good defense next season. Stingley JR returns for his senior season at CB and if they get any safety help through the transfer portal or recruiting they might have a top 5 defense in the SEC

Kelly can now get players on the field that would never get into Notre Dame. With Kellys past record at building and improving every place he's been at, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he wins a NC next season

Help, if memory serves, and that's not a given, Kelly was offered the job and he turned it down.

As I recall, Kelly showed interest in MT’s head job but it appears that it was only to use as leverage to get his contract renegotiated at Grand Valley State for more money. Shortly thereafter, he was gone to Central Michigan. It was nothing more than a pipe dream that he would be here at all and, certainly, not for long if he was.

Tell that to 26,856 fans screaming their lungs out. Doubt you were there to know.

I have been to almost every game at WaGriz since it opened in Oct. 1986. I can guarantee the Griz-Cat game last Saturday was one of the biggest ever. So glad I was there.
