Montana rises to #5:

(STATS) - In a season of numerous ups and downs in the STATS FCS Top 25, there have been two constants: North Dakota State and James Madison, who've been ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, since the preseason.

Their blowout wins this past Saturday solidified them even more in the national media rankings on Monday. North Dakota State (10-0), the two-time defending FCS champion, beat Western Illinois 57-21 to become the first team to reach double-digits win and James Madison (9-1) topped New Hampshire 54-16 to become the first team to clinch at least a share of its conference title - its fourth in CAA Football over the last five seasons.

Both teams are beating FCS opponents on average by about 28 points. North Dakota State's magic number to clinch a ninth straight Missouri Valley Football Conference title is down to one. James Madison's only loss was against an FBS program - a 20-13, season-opening defeat to West Virginia.

While the top two spots are the only ones to go unchanged, No. 3 Weber State and No. 8 South Dakota State also have been in the Top 10 the entire season.

A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select the STATS FCS Top 25. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.

And got pummeled by #6....Hmmmm….
So if we beat Weber this weekend, would you advocate moving Sac to #2 or #3? Or is beating the #3 team in the country (that already beat #6) not enough to jump from 6 into the top 4?

As long as Thomson is out, I don't know why anyone would have issue with putting us over Sac. They struggled to beat NAU last weekend (by all accounts should have lost). I take it you also have a problem with UND being 16 spots below MSU?

Figures.
Uni squeaks by a shitty team, Griz roll a shitty team...and their vote lead increases.

And agreed, none of this matters, beat weebs and it’ll take care of itself.

Key games happening this weekend.

#4 UNI @ #8 South Dakota State
#3 Weber State @ #5 Montana

If UNI loses and we beat Weber State, we’re looking at being ranked #3 heading into the Brawl. We’re right where we want to be.

We're also in a MUCH better position than almost anyone thought we'd be before the season started. Here's hoping the boys can make the most of the opportunities in front of them.

My guesses did quite well in the top ten and the bottom seven, but had some problems in the middle. I am mildly surprised that the pollsters dropped South Dakota State a couple more spots than I expected, but that’s minor. A much bigger surprise was how far down they hammered Princeton, all of eight spots after losing to a ranked team. Not sure what to make of that.

On the good side, the pollsters look like they’ve finally gotten over their love affair with Kennesaw State. I thought the Owls might nudge up a bit because North Carolina A&T lost above them and provided an opening. But the voters actually dropped them by one. Despite our doubts, K-State is not a bad team, and I think #16 looks okay.

On the other hand, the pollsters were much nicer than I expected to Central Arkansas. They still dropped seven spots. However, I expected an even bigger drop since they got pounded at home by unranked Southeast Louisiana. On the other hand, my new rule about such upsets worked fine: SELA did move into the top-25.

As I expected, North Dakota and New Hampshire dropped out. And, also as I expected, Austin Peay move in.

I just noticed that one of my thoughts did happen. In the previous poll, UNI was just 5 points ahead of the Griz. The Griz hammered Idaho (4-6), 42-17, while UNI struggled with Indiana State (3-7), 17-9. Yet the Panthers widened their lead to 85 points over the Griz. Go figure. [Edit: Was about to post when I realized that "stubbins" had also caught this last point. Will leave it in anyway. :) ]

So this weekends game is for the BigSky title and a top 3 Seed.

...no pressure

No, but it sure will improve a teams chance.

It is in the sense that, the Griz can't win the title IF they lose to Weber. Weber wins, and clinches at worst a share of the title. A two-loss Griz team can't win the Big Sky if Weber has no losses going into the final weekend of the season. So yes, for the Griz, this game is to have, at least a chance at a SHARE of the Big Sky
