Congratulations to him!! Absolutely deserved.

Shame on the bsc for making him share the POY award.

Incredible athlete, student & citizen. More than deserving of every piece of recognition that comes his way.

If Dante doesn't get the Buck Award, I plan to picket FCS headquarters. Who's with me? Also, does anybody know where FCS headquarters are located? Thank you.

Unless I read the article wrong the guy who shared the BSC defensive player of the year didn't receive a single vote. Quite the pick there Big Sky, quite the pick.

Not meaning to sound like a whiner but I think Dante will be hurt by voters seeing Co-Defensive player in the Big Sky. Some might think "how can I vote a guy as best player in the country when his conference doesn't recognize him as the best player in his league." Bush league move by the Big Sky to not just give it to him outright.

Not trying to pick a fight, but didn't the Griz have a past Buck that wasn't even BSC defensive player of the year?

don't remember if it happened to a griz, but it has happened - i'm pretty sure jared allen won the buchanan award, but not bsc defensive poy.

Only Montana winner I could find, and he was, as you can see, the Defensive MVP in the Big Sky that year. "Biermann was named the 2007 Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP after accumulating 70 tackles, 15 sacks, 18 tackles for a loss, and five forced fumbles during his senior season. Biermann became Montana's first-ever recipient of the Buck Buchanan Award in 2007"

Yep. Holmes won it in 2015 and wasn’t Big Sky
Defender of the year.

Since the panel voted based on the regular season, playoff numbers don’t matter for the Buchanan (and that’s okay).

Still, great numbers are fun to see, and might at least tweak Olson’s draft prospects. Therefore, there’s another added reason for the Griz to win at Weber … so they (and Olson) have at least one more game after that.

As it stands now, Dante is #2 in Total Tackles per Game for the FCS (12.69 vs 12.73). However, his 165 Total Tackles is tops (by a lot) in FCS, and only 8 behind the top FBS guy, Evan Weaver of Cal-Berkeley. (Weaver is also a Senior, BTW.)

The #1 FCS per-game guy is done playing, but Cal has one more game, the Redbox Bowl on December 30. (What the Hell is a Redbox?) So Weaver can probably stay ahead of Olson’s total after the Weber game. (Weaver averages a bit over 14 tackles per game.) But give Dante one more “average” game and he would end up with the most Total Tackles in all of Division I football for 2019. How cool would that be?

Also, my last comment on this, I don't see where GoGriz lists him winning it in his Bio on there either.... https://gogriz.com/sports/football/roster/tyrone-holmes/1716

A huge shout to Dante. He made an entire defense click because of his leadership and tenacious play. What an absolute blessing it has been to watch this guy.

Apparently Deon is also skilled at internet data entry as well.
