Sorry this took so long. Still struggling through the hangover of a brutal loss. Garizzalies requested during the Elite Griz QB thread that someone come up with a list of the best rushing QB’s in Griz history. Well I took the challenge but could only find complete numbers back to ‘93. If someone could come up with an all time list, I’d wager Wild Bill Kelly would be at the top but here’s a “modern day” list anyway. Here’s my top 5 list in season and career for QB’s all the way back to Dave, minus his Fr year cus those numbers are not findable online.

Top 5 rushing yards season
1 Dalton Sneed ‘18 675
2 Jordan Johnson ‘11 506
3 Trent McKinney ‘12 392
4 Cole Bergquist ‘07 383
5 Cole Bergquist ‘08 356

Top 5 rushing TD’s season
1 Dave Dickenson 14
2 John Edwards ‘01 9
t3 John Edwards ‘02 8
t3 Cole Bergquist ‘08 8
5 Trent McKinney ‘12 7

Top 5 rushing yards career
1 Cole Bergquist 933

3 Dalton Sneed 843
4 John Edwards 585
5 Dave Dickenson 464

Top 5 rushing TD’s career
1 Dave Dickenson 22
2 John Edwards 21
3 Dalton Sneed 11
4 Cole Bergquist 10
t5 Trent McKinney 7
t5 Brian Ah Yat 7

Top 5 rushing attempts career
1 Dave Dickenson 366
2 Cole Bergquist 351

1 Brandon Neill 4.98
2 Trent McKinney 4.61
3 Kyle Sampson 4.38

5 Gresch Jensen 3.83

Here’s a complete list of all QB’s to run the ball since ‘93.

Yeoman's work man. I do not remember Trent McKinney.....like, at all. Must have been drunk all year.

Maybe the best pure runner at QB we've had, but his passing wasn't quite there yet.

I still think we would have beat MSU in 2012 if he had started over SSH.

The old Dickenson QB draw play........used to work pretty good......but he was so fast and so big compared to any QB since.

Thanks, ‘Bama! This is amazing.
You are a gentleman and a scholar.
It is about what I expected; I figured JJ would be in the top of the yards lists. These lists should be considered when debating elite QBs especially in today’s game, altho I admit I forgot about McKinney.
Looks like Bergquist edged out JJ by 37 career yards (but I would guess Bergquist had more games). It’s easy to forget how reliable Bergquist was at moving the chains with his feet. Incredible knack of finding and reaching the sticks—a very under-rated skill. Rushing for a first down is not a commonly tracked stat but it should be. And it’s not just QB draws; QB sneaks are also a lost art.
I did not expect Sneed to be so high on the list. Bergquist and JJ played as freshman but Sneed made this list in only two years. Pretty impressive.

Sneed was probably the fastest of the group. He had some long runs.

No problem. Thanks for giving me a good reason to post on here. Lately douchebaggery asshat comments are all I can come up with and it gets old after a while. Stats are my game and it’s good to get back into it.

Boy there's the understatement of the year. He was one of UM's first true "dual threat" QB's recruited by Pflu. Ended up leaving after one or two years I believe....

Calling him a dual-threat QB is like calling Joe Biden a moderate Democrat. He was nothing more than a running back who threw passes like a linebacker.

i was surprised to see that drew miller had the highest average per run, with over 5 yds a carry. he was an 'elite' qb, for sure.

Wild Bill had 31 total tds, a record that Yo Humphries broke. 5 of them were return tds (a WB returning kicks) during his last 2 years here, so probably about 26 were rushing tds.

In his sophomore year he had 9 td runs of more than 40 yards. He still holds the record for longest run from scrimmage - 84 yards.

McKinney was a fair passer and very good runner. Didn't he get injured bad in one of Delaney's games at North Dakota? Seems like he got knocked of that game? Then thing got turned over to Smithwick Hahn?

Remember though he did all that in the PAC 8 with 175 pound O lineman and a pint of Irish whiskey in his back pocket and a Pall Mall hanging out the side of his mouth.
