Next Griz Football Coach

Back in 2003 when the Griz were looking at hiring a new head coach after Joe Glenn bolted, lots of people in the know wanted Brian Kelly from Grand Valley state to be the guy. Instead we got Hauck and have been kicked in the arse since. The story writes itself

Now that Kelly has chosen LSU he will start stacking national championships while we settle for a guy that chose UNLV. Kelly would have won there.

So, who gets the nod next time? Nepotism and average outcomes? Or the best coach for the job?

You're right, and to go further, I've compiled a list of coaches we should have hired in the last 2 decades with the full benefit of hindsight:

Jim Harbaugh
Scott Frost
Jonathon Smith
Lincoln Riley
Kliff Kingsbury
Kyle Shanahan
Sean McVay
Craig Bohl
Chris Klieman

These are just a few from my extensive list, and it's unbelievable we didn't hire any of them, and instead got stuck with Bobby (twice, yuck).

Such a pedestrian post.

Go for broke.

I say we go for Nick Saban after he retires from Bama. No way he will want to stay retired.

Urban Myer is a good pick too. He could even open a bar and stop by it every now and then to keep an eye on things. He could call it the “Rural Myer Bar”.

Help, if memory serves, and that's not a given, Kelly was offered the job and he turned it down.

This is silly, we have a great coach and one from MT who will likely stay here for a long time. Who knows Kelly may have been awful even if he had taken the job which was allegedly offered.. There are tons of coaches who we might "wish" would come here but that doesn't mean they would or would be any good.

How could you rubes leave off Bill Belichick? Dude loves fly fishing.

No Rob Ash on your short list?

He would stop to keep an eye on things almost daily. He is a very hands-on guy.

Kelly will be out at LSU in 3 years. Guy is a wet blanket. Kids don’t want to play for him. They want to play at Notre Dame.
