California vs East of The Mississippi

Troy: Soapy Sales Stadium in Bozeman. This kills two birds with one stone; most of the California players already own over priced, faux log cabins right between the Starbucks and that shop that sells essential oils, mind crystals, and Chinese made dream catchers. And, of course, it will mark the first time that two teams of decent football players have ever set foot in Bobcat stadium.

Attendance: Sold out, but a late arriving crowd as many California fans were stuck in bumper to bumper Range Rover traffic and those flying in from the East were delayed as the airport was busy. Paris Hilton and Carrottop were flying in on private planes, both recently having purchased “ranches” in the area.

Best Food at the Tailgate: California rolls topped with water wasting almonds and Chicago deep dish cajun style alligator tails crusted in Pennsylvania Dutch cookie crumbs.

California
Strengths: Skill positions on offense. Defense is very deep at LB and even more so in the defensive backs. Special teams are ridiculously talented and deep.
Weaknesses: They are thin on the offensive line and inexperienced at one tackle.

East of the Mississippi
Strengths: Decent running backs and a pretty good defense with an outstanding secondary.
Weaknesses: No receiving corps to speak of and a patch work offensive line.

Highlights
This one was never going to be close. East Mississippi’s defense played their hearts out and the secondary managed to force Berquist to settle for a lot of short passes. Taking away the long passing game meant leaving themselves a little light in run defense and California ended up grinding them down running the ball.

On the flip side California’s defense, which is so deep and talented, didn’t give East Miss much chance to do anything.

Being short on bodies really showed up in the special teams where California was able to have a field day against tired cover teams.

The game did not end early but most of the local Bozeman populace, assuming their team had lost, started a long single file march past; players on potties, a chocolate fish pond devoid of fish, and a brand new Earl Scheib athletics center where they’ll paint any car for $49.99.

Post-game interview with every player for either team;
“Is the bus warmed up? Cuz damn, this place is a dump.”

Yup, Cali could’ve started warming up the buses at halftime and still walked away with this. WAY too many weapons on their side of the ball.At least JF got to do his thing in his one and only showing in the tourney.
