Is there something in the works at UM? I don’t think we want to fall too far behind in this new front of the collegiate sports arms race.

There was a guy at the Griz gathering in Billings in May that went from table to table explaining he was starting one. He left cards with those interested in helping. I lost the card and don't remember his name. I hope he has been successful in getting something started

He doesn't like the current state of the transfer portal either and yet he has figured out how to use it to his advantage. Things change in college athletics and coaches have to change with the times, like it or not. The NIL deal is another one of those changes. I doubt Bobby will ever be happy about it, but if boosters or whomever get something going in regard to a collective and it benefits his recruiting ability, I can't see him not taking advantage of it.

FYI any NIL collective has to be disassociated from coaches and staff, also they are not allowed to be involved with or contact recruits. But like you said, I am sure Bobby would take advantage of it because he doesn't think the NCAA rules apply to him :thumb:

Right because none of the big boy coaches are using NIL for a recruiting advantage. Get real. But enjoy your trolling.

I know this comes off as classic eGriz, but I played golf with an individual who, let's just say, "coordinates" a collective for a household name P5 team (not local to here). He spent the first eight holes on a conference call with members of the coaching staff talking about how to capitalize on it.

(Said in my best southern Belle drawl) Well oh my stars that just can't possibly be happening because the real 2506 said it isn't.

This is kind of good article in that it does a good job explaining that nobody really knows what the hell is going on with collectives in general and the the NIL specifically.

It's like if you saw someone run a red light first-hand, but he says it can't happen because the traffic code prohibits it.

"Looking back, it’s easy to see how collectives operating as an over-the-table extension of the under-the-table recruiting inducement market that has always existed for college football and men’s basketball players would be a natural progression, but even Heitner admits he didn’t expect as much focus and attention on the collective side of NIL."

Didn’t Soldier post about this several weeks ago, in reference to attracting O-linemen?

I did. I read the Griz NIL policy. It didn't seem too complicated, but I'm sure the devil is in the details. It basically requires "employment" and payment of "market rate" for services rendered. Can't be pay for play or used as enticement for recruits.

Realized pretty quickly I lacked expertise and the time... to pull it together. Still think it needs to be done, and I would certainly contribute...especially if portion was committed to bringing DOLA back to stay.

This NIL Collective is is becoming a necessary thing to do. It’s going to be like a mini arms race. It will change recruiting drastically. Will kids choose schools down the road based on academics and the athletic program or will it be more about the money?

The Cats boosters have moved rapidly on this and are about to roll it out. From what I have heard, the initial funding has exceeded expectations and also has a component for linking up players with businesses. Their goal is that all players will get money.

How all this unfolds as more and more schools boosters do this, is going to be interesting. Personally, I think it sucks.

This is the best thing to happen since the Olympics allowed professional athletes to compete in the Olympics, in my opinion.

The Big10 is going to distribute over 100 million to each school, coaches are now being paid well over 10 million and the kids earning all this money could not even sell their autograph???? Talk about unfair labor practices!!!! Hell, I knew kids who could not even afford to go out to the movies...

I will say that I'm not a Saban fan. I think he brings up some good points. The U should take their time to see how something like this plays out.

Screw Nick Saban and the NCAA. We are not here because the poor NCAA couldn't get protection from litigation. We are here because they have been skimming way too much money from the backs of the athletes. Maybe it's time we don't let coaches bail on their team when money gets dangled in front of them.
