Griz 2021-22 Basketball Schedule

Griz til I die said:
I figured we can update this as we hear more but here’s what we know so far:

November 13 @ Mississippi State (via Jon Rothstein)
November 15 @ North Dakota (via D1 Docket)
December 8 vs. Air Force (via Kyle Hansen)
December 19 @ Santa Clara (via Rocco Miller and D1 Docket)

Also waiting on the conference schedule to be released. I assume they will go back to travel partners with one lone wolf (make it SUU since they're about to bail) so hopefully we see an announcement on that soon as well.

I'm liking this schedule so far. Outside of the Mississippi State game, I don't see a game we can't win. I'm excited to see who else we get to come to Missoula this season. These are all higher quality opponents and I think we stack up nicely with them.

Big Sky-Summit League challenge games are all finalized. We'll go to North Dakota on November 15, and then 5 days later we will host Omaha on the 20th. I really hope we get to reschedule the home game against SDSU and road game against NDSU for next season that we missed out on last year with the pandemic.

Sacramento State is the first team in the conference to release their entire schedule including conference games. Similar to last year, every team except for one (probably whoever the lone wolf is) will play 2 conference games in early December in the middle of nonconference play. So that means we will go to Sacramento State on Thursday December 2 and at Northern Colorado on Saturday December 4. Those are two good conference opponents to open up with as opposed to Southern Utah last year.

The Big Sky released the women's basketball conference schedule today. That should mean that the men's will be released tomorrow or sometime this week. However, we can figure out the men's schedule by looking at the Lady Griz schedule and then just taking the inverse of the location except for cat-Griz. I updated the OP with the complete conference schedule for the men!

It's nice to be getting back to a normal scschedule. This schedule looks favorable for both UM and WSU. I'm hoping that it comes down to our two schools at the end. However, most of our BSC teams look to be improved over last year. Winning the championship will take hard work and a little luck IMHO.

Can't wait for October. :thumb:

I would agree with you that the conference top to bottom should be vastly improved. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the conference champion had a 14-6 record. That just seems to be the type of year it's gonna be in the conference. I like that our early December games are at Sac State and UNC. Those are both much better games to start with then last year's early December games at SUU.

If there's one thing I don't like about the schedule (and maybe we should wait for the men's schedule to be released) is that it appears we have to go on the road both Thursdays before cat-Griz. The Lady Griz get both of their Thursday games at home and the cat women even get one Thursday off which would imply that the cat men would also get a Thursday off. That's crap for the Griz men. Hopefully the conference recognized this and moved the Southern Utah road game to the Monday after we host the cats when the schedule comes out tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll be pissed if that's actually the case when the men's schedule comes out.

Yep the men's basketball schedule is out and once again, we got hosed by the Big Sky having to play road games on both Thursdays before both of the cat-Griz games. Prior to cat-Griz in Missoula, we get to make the impossible trip/flight down to Cedar City to take on the likely preseason favorites, and then immediately turn around and get ready to host an improved cat team that gets a week off . Let's not forget that before the game in Bozeman, we also get to go to Cheney and play the defending champs (granted they won't be anywhere near as good this year). The cats also have to play a road game before the game in Bozeman at Idaho, but still I'm pissed that they get a week off before the game in Missoula. We should get the week off before the game in Bozeman but no, that's too hard for the Big Sky to figure out. Here's the cats schedule for comparison.

Now that I've vented a little bit, I read the gogriz.com press release and it mentions that we will have 11 non-conference games. We have 5 confirmed with home games against Air Force and Omaha, and road games against Mississippi State, North Dakota, and Santa Clara. Of the remaining 6 that have yet to be announced, I would assume two of those will be road games against PAC 12 teams and likely another mid-major road game. That would then leave 3 possible home games in which one would likely be an NAIA team and then hopefully two other mid major home games.

Can’t find an opponent anywhere but according to this teaser, it looks like we will play a home game on the opening night of the season. Working to figure out who the opponent is.

From the tone of the tweet it sounds like a home game?

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Checking all the sources on Twitter to see if I can figure out who were playing.

I don't think you took his comment correctly.
No I knew exactly what he was doing. Just thought it’d be funny to come back at him with common sense.

I agree with him. I think you are reading too much into it.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha! My bad. I'm a moron and totally missed part of the original post when I ready it! But I'm glad you all knew what I meant when I clearly didn't!

We've known about this one since July 13. Lance was a little late to the ball game on this one.

Wow, what a lineup of teams coming to Missoula over Thanksgiving weekend. UNC Wilmington is a perennial power in the CAA, Southern Miss always has tough teams, and UC San Diego in only their second season in Division 1 really exploded onto the scene and has a bright future. This will be a lot of fun to watch.
