2022 and Beyond University of Montana Lady Griz Basketball Recruiting

ASGR, a national WBB recruiting service, ranks Breanna Williams (Skyview HS) No. 7 overall in the class of 2024.

The same service ranks Macey Huard No. 240 overall and lists her as a May stockriser.

Normally I’m good with numbers and stats but this has me confused. Are they saying a montana kid is #7 in the country in high school Jr’s? Are they reliable and accurate? Is the site run by her parents?

Breanna Williams is a very good player and from what we hear a very hunble and nice kid. Can play inside or outside.

Lots of opportunities for her go play mid major ball or Power 5.

If UM or MSU want her they will need to beat out a lot of other programs.

What are the chances UM gets Covill? Both parents played for UM. Just saw this tweet a little bit ago.

I'm not sure how the Covill family feels about UM after Nate was not retained.

Interesting.

New staff never tried to develop a relationship with the family? Talent right in the backyard should be a priority to at least make an effort.

I'm not saying they have or havn't tried to recruit Alex. Just wondering how she feels about the Lady Griz after her Dad was not kept on the staff.

Since this is a thread of LG 2022 and beyond, is there any consensus of recruitment within the state such as around the BIllings area?

I was wondering about: https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/sydney-pierce/iEPxs41i2UGiY0wNtS7eow/default.htm

Granted, Class of 2024 but she was at least Honorable Mention last year for Billings West.

WyomingGrizFan,
I read somewhere along the way that Sydney is focused on playing Volleyball post high school. As far as in state recruits go, I'm guessing that LG staff are 100% focused on trying to land Williams out of Skyview. Rumor is that she is getting attention from some big programs, but who knows, Brian is creating a great player culture and hopefully that will translate into a great winning culture too.

It's no rumor about Williams. Power 5 looks...pac 12, WCC, MWC and beyond the west coast. Seems to me from what we hear the best MT talent is looking elsewhere.

The Lady Griz history should garner some looks from those instate talents, but will Holsinger be able to keep any of them home?

That is a question that will play out as the yr/yrs progress.

From what we see no coaching connection to LG program and history could be a good thing or bad thing for the program.

A program that is so deep in tradition should make sure the top talent at least considers UM. Williams, Covil, & Coutre ( Big Sky HS), should all be targets as well as the Big Fork kid that is a soph. Seems like all the MT talent plays for NW Blazers.

This will be interesting as the season/s play out. Some AAU coaches are more apt to sharing than others in the region.

Again we appreciate this board for its activity.

BigSkyBreakdown,
I sure hope Brian is able to get some top tier talent. I noticed that Campbell at Sac St is focusing on the transfer portal to build that program into something better than it was when he took over. He landed a couple Big 10 transfers that had really impressive rankings coming out of high school. Sac will have a very big frontline. Looks like the same at Florida Gulf Coast where Sophia is headed. That coach uses the transfer portal to build a new team each season. I don't think he recruited any high school players.

Here is a quick look at what Sac St got from the portal. This was taken from Ross Cunningham from the ISU forum. Kaylin was Utah State's best player last season. She put in 20 against us last season. Sac St could be a handful next season.

-Kaylin Randhara (6-2 Senior, Turlock, CA) (Utah State)
-Solape Amusan (6-1 Junior, Woodbury, MN) (Illinois)
-Kahlaijah Dean (5-6 Senior, Bakersfield, CA) (Oakland)
-Erin Hedman (6-3 Sophomore, New Berlin, WI) (Minnesota)

I know the LG are in contact daily with Sydney and also have her little sister on their radar. The whole Pierce family came to the GSA event in May and had a blast. They also just went to the LG camp this summer. Mom is a cat and dad is a Griz. I know the mom very well and my daughter goes to school with Sydney. Her favorite sport is VB and she does think she will get bigger offers out of state, but I do know the Griz are after her. Her mom just wants her to have school paid for.

I’ve been very impressed with Brian and his assistants. We golfed with Nate and he seemed like a great guy that really cared about the players/recruits.

Macey Huard was among the most efficient scorers at the Adidas 3SSB Championships:

Not sure who all the Lady Griz remain in contention for in 2023, but it would be nice to land one of the following two post players:
-- Aiyana Mitchell, a 6-4 C from Colorado who holds offers from Belmont, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, and Clemson among others.
-- Gracie Johnson, a 6-5 F from Oregon who holds offers from LMU, Montana State, Boise State, Idaho, Portland, and others.

Congratulations to Macey Huard! Anxious to hear who will be the new assistant coach but I have to be patient - no doubt Coach will find a great fit.

Malia Samuels, have visited Montana last year, has committed to Southern Cal. She always seemed to be a bit of a long shot given her national ranking and the schools after her.

Another name to watch is Adria Lincoln. She’s a smooth, versatile 6-1 guard from Washington. I’ve linked her junior highlights below:

Still hopeful for either Mitchell or Johnson as well.

An early signing from a highly regarded player. Adria Lincoln is currently ranked as the top combo guard in Washington state, and the 5th ranked player overall in the Washington State class of 2023.

I guess. My first impression was..."Wow"...Haley & Macey Huard and Adria on the same team...

I believe I would add 2023 signee Macy Donarski to that "Wow" list.

Back-to-back really good recruiting classes for Holsinger and Co. The six guards between the 2022 and 2023 class are all of varying sizes, skillsets, strengths and weaknesses, etc.

The 2023-24 roster is currently (and will almost certainly change with the current transfer portal era):
Senior
Gina Marxen
Junior
Lisa Kiefer
Willa Albercht
Haley Huard
Dani Bartsch
Sophomore
Mack Konig
Draya Wacker
Libby Stump
Alex Pirog
Keeli Burton--Oliver
Freshman
Macy Donarski
Macey Huard
Adria Lincoln

If the above roster is correct, the Lady Griz are currently at 13 for the 2023-24 season which means two available scholarships. I believe Gfeller and Tsineke both have an additional year of eligibility as well.

It looks like the 2024 class is going to have to be a pretty small one, though hopefully big in quality. Taylee Chirrick and Breanna Williams have both had big summers.
