2022 and Beyond University of Montana Lady Griz Basketball Recruiting

ASGR ranks Montana’s 2023 class as the best in the Big Sky, and Adria Lincoln as the Lady Griz’s best commit at No. 156:
https://twitter.com/asgrmedia/status/1556625731932798976?s=21&t=8SXwlLGAZJPjvTVeVyLfAQ

And since the LG have a couple recruits out of Colorado, perhaps the next state over might not be too much of a reach, the UofM has the clout to recruit around there: https://prospectsnation.com/player/mckayla-miller ...hasn't committed yet, either, that I know of.

Guess McKayla Miller out of Cimarron, Kansas (Class of 2023) signed with Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska) of the Big East. Added to that is that Britt Prince out of Omaha has verballed to Creighton, as well. Prince projected to being the National Player of the Year in 2024. Those two on the same team would be interesting.

Since the LG has a game with Wichita State (Kansas) out of the American Conference this year maybe the LG can schedule a game or two with Creighton in the next couple years or so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7sVZcjgGcI

Be great to see players of this caliber on the court again in Missoula.

'OregonStatefan:' I was wondering if you've heard any recruiting on the LG front of the likes of Class of 2023 (State of Washington) as follows:

https://prospectsnation.com/player/claire-oconner
https://prospectsnation.com/player/ella-kaleta

...or Isabel Sullivan of Eastside Catholic or Ava Schmidt of Eastlake.

Since it seems those haven't committed yet and there are two more openings on the LG roster and the LG recruit around Washington, that is.

Haven't heard anything definite in regards to those names, though I do know Claire O'Conner was a teammate of Adria's on the NW Blazers.

I personally think it would be wise to hold off on adding any more guards in 2023 for a few reasons. Holsinger prefers a roster of 13 over a roster of 15. I do think he's actively trying to add one more to the 2023 class, but given the quantity (and quality) of guards in the past two classes, I think it would make sense to add another big. Aiyana Mitchell (Colorado) appears to be really impressive, but she's got a slew of Power 5 offers. Gracie Johnson (Oregon) has a lot of quality Big West, WCC, Big Sky, Mountain West level offers. I believe her family is LDS, so Utah State or BYU (should they offer her) may be tough to beat out as she has a brother on each of those MBB teams. Covill seems to be a long shot.

Also, with Marxen being the only senior, it would make sense to try and keep a few additional spots open for the 2024 class. Taylee Chirrick (Billings West) and Brenna Williams (Billings Skyview) were just named to the first and second teams for the Under Armor U16 circuit. I would expect those two to generate a lot of buzz nationally, but I also expect Brian will work hard to keep them home.

Macey Huard was named to the Adidas 17U 3SSB second team:

Impressive company as three of the other four players have committed to Stanford, Texas, and Louisville.

Thank you for sharing. She’s gonna be a stud!

Looking ahead a little more towards the Class of 2024, for instance, a couple possible recruits, at least in the northwestern region:

(Everson, Washington) https://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/250988/devin-coppinger

(Seattle, Washington) https://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/251008/katie-fiso

(Sherwood, Oregon) https://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/250994/ava-heiden

And speaking of the Class of 2026, out of Vancouver, Washington is a 5' 9" PG that looks like she can handle the bb by the name of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFRf8O4mNBM

All three are probably long shots for the Lady Griz, though Devin Coppinger is a very good friend of Libby Stump: https://www.lyndentribune.com/sports/coppinger-stump-take-aaus-biggest-stage/article_ba52c362-ef04-11eb-9980-cb48d40a6435.amp.html

As you can tell from the video below, she’s a very good player and has gotten a lot of offers and interests from Pac-12 schools.

I think Breanna Williams and possibly even Taylee Chirrick have a chance the crack the top-100 when the rankings expand.

Have to agree on: https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/talyee-chirrick/Dtdvw1MaEeuAzqREozo6lw/default.htm ...for Billings West Class of 2024 looks like a likely prospect that the LG could consider. One could only offer a scholarship (athletic) and do the PR work and hope the LG get the best they can.

For the Class of 2024 another couple prospective candidates that could be considered:

https://prospectsnation.com/player/elizabeth-gentry ...out of Littleton, Colorado since we seem to be doing quite well recruiting the State of Colorado, somewhat. https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/elizabeth-gentry/BaVIU8LgCE6S0vju8I5gvA/default.htm

And...https://prospectsnation.com/player/avery-howell#videos
A four-star out of Boise, Idaho.

A three-star out of Seattle, Wash. https://prospectsnation.com/player/carmen-cruz

Another four-star out of Seattle, Wash. https://prospectsnation.com/player/katie-fiso

A four-star out of Toronto, Canada (5-star on ESPN) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OACb2zDJ50w

and a four-star out of Raymond, Alberta Canada: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dghJPd0lVV0

At least, prospective for the recruiting process. IMHO

Montana has offered 2025 Kadynce Couture from Big Sky HS:

If you live in state and haven't made it out to watch Kadynce play, you are missing out. She is the real deal. Mandy Morales comes to mind.

Malia Ruud and Breanna Williams visited. I’m assuming there’s a few others in there that I’m not as familiar with. I believe Kadynce Couture may be in the front row.

I speculate, granted, although may be another one of those 'long shots' for the UofM and all that, but Adria Lincoln and Vivienne Berrett, a 6'4" post from Stanwood, Wash. (Class of 2023) - that hasn't committed as of yet, as far as I know, nor do I know if the LG offered such a 'long shot,' either, seem to have played together with the NW Blazers. Malia Ruud (Class of 2025) of Chiawana is also mentioned involved with the NW Blazers as well.

An interesting aside, Malia Samuels from Garfield, Wash., was the Washington State 3A MVP (2021-22), and is going to USC. Second-Team (2021-22) 3A All-State was Vivenne Berrett.

The Washington State 2A MVP (2021-22) was Dylan Philip from Ellensburg, who was signed by Tricia Binford of Montana State. A freshman phenom last year for 2A was G-PG 5'10" Ava Marr (Class of 2025) Scored 20 points in her hs debut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkPrO6P4E-k

I guess the Montana State University Bobcats got's a 'short shot' instead of the 'long-shot' that it is for the University of Montana when it comes to such types of players.

Montana has offered 2025 Sara Barhoum from Oregon while on her unofficial visit:
https://twitter.com/barhoumjohn/status/1539026548329549825?s=21&t=NMg1rI5j2ZCJ-k_O86P3AA

Interestingly, Sara Barhoum is one of three freshman on her team from last year (2021-22) that received 6A All-State consideration. Fellow freshman team-mate 6'1" Jazzy Davidson has just been recently offered by Stanford; she was 1st Team All-State while Sara Barhoum and another freshman 5'9" Dylan Mogel were 6A HM All-State for the Clackamas Cavaliers. Ava Heiden of Sherwood was 6A 2nd Team All-State last year. A 6'0" G Donovyn Hunter 6A 2021-22 POY from South Medford just committed to Oregon State.
Of course, there is another player for the Clackamas Cavaliers that is also highly rated but seemingly overlooked (Class of 2023) in 6'3" Eliza Buerk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPzRiA24PaE

Vivienne is off the board. Already committed to a Big West School

Buerk is also off the board. Committed to Davidson.

Any others from the State of Idaho, other than an Avery Howell (Class of 2024) That I had already previously mentioned, that seem to be still available, uncommitted that is to say, to this date, that might be considered - 5'11" Sydnie Rodriguez (Class of 2024) though not rated on:
https://prospectsnation.com/player/sydnie-rodriguez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM6YeQEIvcQ Kambree Barber (Class of 2024) has already committed to BYU and Madison Symons (2023) to Wyoming and Aspen Caldwell (2023) to Idaho.

I'm not trying to outsmart the coaching staff nor their apparent insiders. One doesn't know what can be in two years. I'm just saying.

Probably not of much interest to Lady Griz fans, but ESPN recently updated their rankings for 2023-2025 classes: http://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2023

I thought Macey Huard may have a chance to crack the top-100, but it seems to be mostly Power 5 commits.

Not sure how much of an option Devin Coppinger is, but she's No. 41 in the class of 2024.
