Thanks You all for Welcoming Timmy Falls into your City and Lives. He will miss the People, the Fans and Missoula will always have a place in our hearts. Arriving the Thursday the 24th, Timmy and I will be departing the 25th and returning home.
Can anyone advise on Route recommendations and stop-over Cities on the way.

Option 1 - Googe Maps shows the fastest route to be going from Missoula to Lolo, and head west on State highway 12 west to Kooskia, ID, turn southwest on State Highway 13 to Grangeville, ID, turn south on State Highway 95, which will take to Interstate Highway 80, which will take you all the way to San Francisco going through Reno, NV and Sacramento, CA.

Option 2 - Another way is to go go west on Interstate 90, Go south on State Highway 395 which will take you through Pasco/Kennewick/Richland area and to Interstate 84, go west on 84 to State Highway 97 and go south which will take you through a bunch of small towns and Klamath Falls, then turn south on Interstate 5, which will take you I-80 and then to San Francisco.

Option 3 - take highway 93 all the way down to interstate 80 which you can take to Portland to Interstate 5 or highway 97.

Option 4 - variation on option 3, take highway 93 from Missoula, Just past Challis, take highway 75 which will take you through Sun Valley, ID and to Interstate 84 and highway 93. Can either take 84 to Boise, ID and continue to highway 95 which you can take to interstate 80. Or you can take 93 to interstate 80.

Option 5 - Take i-90 through spokane to Seattle, and then i-5 to I-80 and to San francisco.

Thanks to Timmy and your family! Timmy was always my son's favorite player! His energy and enthusiasm that he brought to the court was contagious, and we were sad to hear he was leaving. Good luck to Timmy in the future!

I have done this trip, both ways, 15 or 20 times over the years. When I just want to make time and not sight see, I go on I-90 towards Butte, cut south on I-15 to Idaho, go west on I-? from Pocatello, get off Interstate and go to Twin Falls, go south from Twin Falls on a secondary road into Nevada to I-80, and then west all the way to Bay Area.

Overnight stays could be Twin Falls or any city in Nevada along I-80. I like Winnemucca.

Option 1 is one of the beautiful drives out there however it will take about 2 weeks.

Timmy if you read this I stopped you by the tennis courts one day......live long and prosper.

Drive safe! I sure have enjoyed watching Timmy play in his time with the Griz. He is a great competitor and made these teams so much better. Good luck in your next adventure!

I will add Option 1A - Only difference for option 1 is after turning onto highway 95, drive to New Meadows and turn left onto highway 55 that will go through Boise and back to highway. If scenery is a big for you, this will be even more scenic than option 1 plus be able to visit Boise. Road is twice as windy though and highway 95 is pretty windy. need car with suspension system that wil reduce the roll on the turns.

Option 6 is similar to what Playerrep posted. Take I-90 east turn south on I-15 but instead of turning west at Pocatello, continue south to close to Salt lake city, turn west on I-80 and go all the way to San Francisco. You would be passing towns such as Dillon, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Ogden, Salt Lake, Winnemucca, Reno, and Sacremento on this route.

Both option 5 and 6 would be 4+ lanes all the way. Easier driving.

I would like to add one more star to Timmy's resume at Montana: His performance in the NCAA tournament.

On the biggest stage, against one of the traditional major powers in college basketball, Michigan, Timmy did not back down. In both games he competed as an equal and played fearlessly.

I will miss him.

Most heartily agree

Backtrack to Butte, then I-15 to SLC, hang a right on I-80, non-stop to SF. Thats the safe way to go. Forget that Pokey to Twin then the secondary road to Wells, NV. Little to no shoulder on the road south of Jackpot, as I recall from my ONE TIME trip. Never went back on that road.
Timmy was a breath of fresh air. As Bob Hope was fond of saying to his tune, thanks for the memories. :thumb:

Agreed. In fact he stepped up. While I always thought he was good, talented and athletic, I must admit that I didn't expect him to step up against Michigan like he did.

My route popped up in this website. 1140 miles to SF.

https://www.travelmath.com/drive-distance/from/Missoula,+MT/to/San+Francisco,+CA

Plugging Missoula to SLC, and SLC to SF, is 1259.

The secondary road from Twin Falls to I-80 in Nevada has been a straight shot with little to no traffic, every time I've done it.

Safest of travels Timmy. Sorry to see you go! Remind me again why you’re on your way? Tried to keep up but with all the drama from the “l know what’s going on” posters and the replies from the “you’re an idiot” posters I lost track and interest. Not sure what exactly happened with your exit but it’s definitely the Griz loss. Scholarship? Academics? Attitude? Recruits coming? Redshirt and back next year? If you could enlightenment us I’d appreciate it. Go Griz!

So let's start the drama all over again, right?

Safe travels to one of my favorite Griz players, the other became a Harlem Globetrotter! Why not become the first White Guy on the Trotters Timmy! Seriously you would fit right in! Scooter give him a call! Manny give Scooter a call!

Previous posts have covered virtually all pertinent routes between Missoula and the Bay area. At one point or another I have taken them all. No matter which way you go it's a two to three day trip. Further, the most direct route is not always the fastest.
The route I like the best is from Missoula to Seattle via I-90, then Seattle to San Francisco via I-5. This route is just under 1200 miles, is freeway all the way and there is a good deal of civilization on that route in case of an emergency. Best route if your headed into the North Bay area or the City.
If you are headed to anywhere in the South of East Bay areas taking I-90 East to Butte, then I-15 to Salt Lake City and I-80 from Salt Lake into San Francisco is your best bet.
Some of the other routes may be more scenic but won't be as efficient.

Good luck young man! Hopefully you will remember us as fondly as we will remember you!

I mentioned this route. But if you take I-90 east, I-15 south, and then I-80 west to san Francisco, it is a slightly shorter in distance and has higher speed limits most of the way. Much of I-5 is 70 miles per hour and this route will take you 1 to 2 hours longer. If time is important, turning west at Pocatello is about 2 to 3 hours faster than going through Seattle.
