Cats coming off a loss at Stanford. Coach Sean Miller pissed off about the way they played defense and shot free throws--a bit better than 50%--in a game they should have won. The opening of their Pac-12 season, and their first loss to Stanford since the Ice Age. Look for them to be fired up from the get-go tonight. Hope we are too.

Ranked about 50 on the ESPN BPI scale. Not one of their most talented recent teams if you go by that metric. OTOH they always have some very good players. Going to take a very good effort on our part to keep it within reach, I'll be watching to see if we can build on the UW win.

Side note, anybody ever wondered why they use the term bear down when they’re the wildcats? What does that even mean?

I'll be watching for visible/statistical improvement individually and as a team in several areas:
Reduction of unforced turnovers;
focus on converting in-paint offensive opportunities;
fundamental position on defensive and offensive rebounds;
dribble-enter drives on aggressive perimeter defense;
communication/switching on low block-paint defense;
ability of guard combo to handle Arizona hi-post defensive traps;
... and, am especially hopeful to see a double-digit minutes of a 9-man rotation as a final tuneup for Big Sky action.
Go Griz

Griz showing considerable poise so far. Patience on offense. A few, but not a lot, of turnovers. Not settling for a lot of outside shots.

Pretty aggressive D..have stayed ahead pretty much the entire first half, and now lead 23-20 with 7 mins to go

Under 4 min. in half remaining and Griz up by 5, 29 - 24. Griz sound poised and taking advantage of AZ. down game.

These young Grizzlies are certainly quick studies. DeCuire did a good job in the last couple years, found guys who are not only athletic, but are savvy...
