Big Sky head coaching updates

Portland State promotes 8th year assistant coach Jase Coburn to head coach of the men's team, and they also promoted 6th year assistant coach Chelsey Gregg to women's head coach. And believe it or not, our guy Mark Campbell is the new head coach of the Sac State women's team. MAJOR upgrade for the hornets. This leaves just the EWU women with the only available head coach opening.

Saw Holland Woods was in the portal. Payne coached him at PSU and likely played a part in his recruitment considering he is the guy offering most of the AZ recruits for UM. Potential guy to watch in the portal if he’s looking to drop back down.

It will be interesting to see if Campbell can recruit to Sac State and make them a contender. At Oregon, he had the fancy (almost outlandish) facilities, big name recognition, Power 5 competition, and the Nike money and free merchandise to help with recruiting. But a lot of Montana high schools have more attractive gyms than Sac State's. Sac State had 8 CA girls (most of which didn't make too big of an impact) last year but how much better CA talent will Campbell be able to get away from the bigger Cali schools? It could be argued that Sac State's best player was Tiana Johnson from Kalispell, last year. Maybe Menke or Olivares.

If Campbell is able to build that program and some excitement, might be good for not only Sac State but also the BSC if they can finally upgrade their facilities.

I was told Sac State cannot afford to cover housing for their women’s basketball players. If true, it would be very difficult to recruit there, especially with the California housing market.

They could house them in their gymnasium but it’s probably too small of a space for 14 players.
