It's difficult to put together any thoughts on how the Lady Griz will do this year. Not that I'm from Missouri, but "show me" is pretty apt for further prognostication. Towards the middle of the season we should start seeing the group gel significantly and have a really good idea where things are headed. Hoping the best for them - it's hard not to be at least a little positive :)

I have a feeling both Montana and Sac State are going to surprise a lot of people this year. Coaches at both schools were high-profile recruiters at Oregon State and Oregon respectively. Plus, Holsinger turned things around quickly at Montana Tech.

You could be on to something there. It will be interesting!

Sac State sounds like it's hard to recruit people to play in their "high school" gym, but they're in a huge population base. A lot of kids like to stay close to home.

You know, when UCLA won the WNIT a couple years ago, if not mistaken, the year after Wyoming did, they had nine players 6'3" on their roster at the time; and one listed at 6'7." The LG can't recruit such, seemingly, at least it seems so. Unless it's from Europe? And even then... Who knows how it'll turn out.

Can the LG ever recruit someone that's over 6'0?" Rarely. It seems.

Unfortunately after the 1st two losses, Griz fans will be calling for the coaching staff to be replaced. That’s just who we are apparently.

Lady Griz have 5 players taller than 6'0"". That is typical. Now, getting a player taller than 6'2", Prior to Lisa Kiefer, Holly Tyler was the last player taller than 6'2". Since 2004, the typical post player for Lady Griz has been 6'1" or 6'2".

But, they are actively recruiting players taller than 6'2" as there has been some players announcing they have received offers from UM.

Shadra Robison (2005-2010) was 6'4" IIRC.

Yes, yes, all true. Hollie Tyler was 6'3" and Crystal Baird was 6'4" or so. Angela Beiber was 6'3" and Shadra Robison very rarely played and transferred, if not mistaken. And Laurie Strube was about 6'2" or 6'3," I forget which, because she didn't play that much, either. Kim Vanik was 6'4" but was only around for one year. Still, once the LG get one player that can handle the post position that's about it for the recruiting. Oh yes, there was a Laurie Valley that was 6'3" and Jamie Farris 6'3" also but Farris had a knee injury her senior year in hs and that was a curtailing consideration there. And Jill Frohlich was 6'3" but she, too, had ACL on both of her knees and had to retire.

But it seems that once the LG get one or maybe, at best two players that are over 6'1 & a half, like Lisa McLoed was, then the LG stock up on players of lesser height. All well and good if they can hit the friggin' basket, that is. Coming in with accolades of being a sharp shooter and all that, and once they hit the court for the LG their shooting percentage goes down twenty to thirty per cent!! What's up with that? You're not going to win many games shooting 15 % or less from the three point line like the LG have been doing.

It's been that way for the past ten to fifteen years or so and it is quite perplexing. Granted, they play defense at the collegiate level these days, a hell of a lot better than say, at the high school level. But when there's an open shot why not use it? Instead of but passing the ball around the perimeter and forgo any offensive scheme whatsoever. Or am I still frustrated over the years that Cate was the Head Coach that had no offensive scheme for her team whatsoever?
