MONTANA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING:

I'm going to try to compile a list of Montana High School kids who might have the ability to play at the next level. As with most things, this is going to be highly subjective, incomplete, but I am going to attach this as the second post to the 2022-23 recruiting thread as a resource.

Top 2023 Montana High School Basketball Players

CG Dougie Peoples (6'3'' 180) Butte, MT (Butte Central HS)-
No offers reported as of yet, but has interest from both Montana and Montana State. Pure scorer, has ability to play both point and shooting guard. Draws comparisons to Kevin Criswell in high school.

SF Connor Dick (6'5'' 185) Missoula, MT (Hellgate HS)-
Future is likely as a football player, at least right now, but is a freak athlete with likely more room to grow. Dad was a Montana basketball player in 90's.

SF Royce Robinson (6'4'' 190) Lewistown, MT (Fergus HS)- Part of one of the best teams in the state last year and one of the best wing tandems w/ Sophomore Fischer Brown. Great body control and plays taller than his listed 6'4'' height.

CG Lane Love (6'5'' 165) Billings, MT (Skyview HS) - Will be one of the top returners in the state at the AA level, doesn't have elite athleticism but makes up for it with great ball skills. Has NBA shooting range with a smooth release for a taller kid. D1 kid by position and height and likely will get interest from UM and MSU.

Top 2024 Montana High School Basketball Players

SG Fischer Brown (6'4'' 160) Lewistown, MT (Fergus HS)- Probably the best sophomore in the state, and at this point seems to be a clear D1 kid. Will likely be highly recruited by both Montana and Montana State.

None of the Montana notables are even close to being D1 prospects even as walk ons.

Oh I think you are likely right, I've been told that Peoples is at-best a walk on at this point, but a lot was going to be determined on how did during spring/summer AAU, to see if there was any helium left in the tank.

I've gotten the impression that Brown probably has the greater ceiling, as a junior, and probably makes him a more interesting prospect.

Updated a ton of June offers for class of 2024 guys.

So far the targets for both Class of 23 and 24 is heavy in the shooting guard area. Tons of good length in the SG group.

Money Williams (class of 2023) has committed to Montana. I’ll post more later but the 2023 class is shaping up nicely.

By my count this makes 14 players with eligibility going into the 23-24, one over the limit (IF everyone comes back which is unlikely). Eight of which are guards. This would also signal to me that the Griz strategy is high school recruiting, which seems the opposite of where most schools at this level are going. Basketball now going the over-signing route like football.

If we could get one kid a year from this program it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Coach Cobb is a favorite among California high school players. Then WCE players realize Montana doesn’t play their type of game. WCE plays fast ball

I'm surprised we have one more scholarship to add. Not surprised it is a PG

I don’t think we have any scholarships to add. By my count we already have 14 players with eligibility going into the 23-24, one over the limit (IF everyone comes back which is unlikely). You would need two players on this year’s team (other than Anderson who has no eligibility left) to transfer or graduate and move or an already committed newcomer to go somewhere else or be dropped.
