Nice win for the Lady Griz, 82-77, over a solid North Dakota team that lost to Montana St. by 11 but defeated Wyoming and Detroit Mercy.

Lady Griz shot lights out: 26-52 from the field and 11-20 from three.

Really nice game for Burton-Oliver, who had 11 points and 7 rebounds. She's looking more and more comfortable each game. Shows flashes of the highly rated recruit she was prior to her health issues.

Konig had some nice moments as well and was 3-3 from three. She exited the game with after being hit in the face (eye?) and I didn't see her return to the court.

Marxen and Fatkin were both solid. Marxen was known for having a great A/TO at Idaho, so hopefully she can cut down on those. She's continuing to get more comfortable after taking last season off.

Bartsch did some really nice things off the bench though she threw a couple of really bad post entry passes.

Two tough games against Wichita State and Cal up next at the LMU tournament.

This was a really fun game to watch. It looked for a while in the first half that the Lady Griz were going to lose big, but Marxen caught fire late in the half and brought them within 5 at the break. Then the second half as a battle. Big games by Marxen and Fatkin. And Lisa Keifer and Dani Bartch made some plays down the stretch to help seal the win. Marxen scored her 1000 career point with her last bucket in the first half.

Konig never did return even to the bench. She was in a lot of pain after being poked in the eye.

Yes, it ended up being a great win but started out pretty rough early on. Players were hesitant and kind of stagnant on offense. A lot of the turnovers early looked to be due to confidence issues and trying to get rid of the ball. Then Marxen cutting into their double digit lead before half was huge. Seemed to change everybody's intensity. 3rd quarter was pretty amazing offensively as Lady Griz scored 32 points on 12-16 (75%) shooting and 6-7 (85.7%) from three. Also, switched to a zone the 2nd half which really seemed to help the energy. Really liked all the "little" hustle things that Kiefer did today. And agree on the improvement from Keeli.

NDak is an experienced, senior-laden and led team. Eight of the 14 rostered players are seniors and 7 of them combined for 63 of NDak's 77 points. The other 14 points were scored by freshmen.

The FHawks play an aggressive matchup-style defense very similar to Eastern Washingtons, where double-teaming (usually at or around the high post) forces the ball-handler into a gap where the help defender goes for the ball instead of playing "hands-high" help or trap D. Montana's 22 turnovers came mostly from those hi-post situations. It's very effective against teams that use dribble-enter action by guards to try to collapse zones. With Montana down by 14 midway through the second quarter, coach H took a timeout. From there, Gina took over at the high post and the GrizWBB worked the ball around the perimeter until NDak's D got stretched a bit too far and... well, the treys started dropping. So did momentum. And the score flip-flopped. After the FHawks started attacking the perimeter, things opened up in the blocks and Keeli Burton-Oliver took over. She has a very nice array of post moves and will help this team considerably when she gets more confidence. Montana's four ball-handling guards combined for 14 turnovers... all in early action. Fut after switching to their rim passing game, the TOs dropped and the treys started to drop as well. Win Montana.

This game was a textbook example of a coach making significant in-game adjustments. Successfully. Coach H seems to have the "In-game" ability to make significant game-plan changes. But Montana erased a 14 pt deficit literally in the frame of 7-8 minutes. It was fun to watch. Go GrizWBB

I finally got to watch the game, and it was good to see the 3-pointers start to fall. They are getting better. Really hoping Mac Konig is doing better - not much worse than getting poked in the eye šŸ˜¢ Prayers.
