Other FCS Games of Interest (Sept 13-15)

Mercer now up on Samford 14-7
Final: Mercer wins, 30-24. Big upset of #9,
Upset of #5 SHSU noted elsewhere.

Non-upset: SDSU outrageously crushes Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 90-6. There really should be a mercy rule for games like that.

Edit: Somewhat of an upset brewing with #16 McNeese leadings #13 Nicholls, 20-3, in the 4th quarter. Not a big deal, since they aren't ranked that far apart.

In case you haven't noticed, #11 Weber State leads #22 South Dakota, 21-3, going into the 4th quarter.

On general principles, we record a bunch of games on the weekend, just in case we want something to watch during the week. Well, one of those was the Rhode Island at UConn game, which ended up 56-49 for the Huskies. Basically, it came down to who had the ball last, with enough time to score … which just happened to be UConn. URI actually had it in the UConn red zone at the end, but needed a TD and ran out of time.

Neither team had any defense, so the offensive numbers were impressive, as you might expect with 105 points scored between them. UConn gained 573 yards total (380 passing), URI had 550 (351 passing). Both have mobile quarterbacks who can pass. The Rhodie QB, JaJuan Lawson, was 23 of 34 passing (68%) and he also gained 85 yards running, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. To go with that, they have an RB who rushed for 95 yards, with an 8.6 ypc. They keep that up, URI is going to make some noise in the CAA.

Added point: Lawson had a slow start (only 216 yards passing and running against Delaware), but he put up 317 yards passing against Albany. Rhode Island won both those games, so they now leads the CAA with a 2-0 conference record.
