Did a bit more research. For some reason, 247 still has him ranked as a 3 star in the state of Arizona. Which makes no sense, because he played this last year in Florida. Pretty sure 247 just lost track of him. Either way, impressive offers.

And he's got good size!?

Have to give the staff credit. They have been, can we say, methodically ramping up the quality of recruits they are going after year over year. Have to be excited about this one if you are a fan of Griz roundball.

I literally made the post a while back that why go after a decent MT kid when we can land 3 star kids from big programs....I was mocked that we don’t land 3 star kids. Well suck it people! Haha.

Someone was very mad we did not go after Germer when I was making that point. This is a big get!

Looks pretty good on the videos. Not a big bruiser by any means and doesn't do much from the outside. Finds ways to rebound and gets lots of put backs. Some pretty nice passes. Don't see him being a huge contributor for a couple years. Lots of kind of weird looking put backs/ little hooks from below the rim.....those won't happen in college.

Remember........Steadman was great (??) and was going to be BSC MVP. I'll let this kid develop before I "suck it"

Yes indeed, he looks like a good pick up for you guys. Just keep in mind that he is still a freshman and may need a bit of development. Like most freshmen, he could show a bit of inconsistency. On the other hand, he might just come in and take the world by storm. It is probably best to not put too high of expectations on him. Let him develop. :thumb:

Still think with Blakney(Sr.), Anderson(Sr.), Owens(Jr.), Bannan(So.) and DCH(So.) in the front court, it might be best to give him a redshirt and develop him if he is willing. Has a huge wingspan and is high motor, but is a little thin and could use a year of physical devolopment(same could’ve been said about Owens out of HS). That said, if he is willing to stick it out, he has the wingspan and versatility that could make him a real defensive force in the future. Overall good pick up and made up a monster front court at Desert Vista his junior year with Ighadaro, who is headed to Marquette.

Your comment brings up a question I have been wondering about. With last year being a free year for everyone, how will everyone be listed on the roster this year? In theory, for example, Bannan is an incoming freshman and Owens is still a soph. In terms of eligibility, I believe Blakeney is the only person that can’t come back the following year.

I don’t tend to pay too much attention to “offers” or “interest” until that kid has taken an official to that school. And even then “official” visit dates show differing amounts of interest. Is your official visit, the first home football game weekend or is the end of October? If it the end of October, you basically have to hope none of the kids on the earlier weekends at your position commit.

The average fan doesn’t realize the schools sometimes have contact with up to 200 kids. Contact can be a simple call or text from the lowest level assistant. Then when 24/7 asks who is showing interest a kid says School X although School X has only sent him a single text.

Offers are sometimes similar. Because it is against NCAA rules for schools to comment on unsigned recruits, the info only can come from basically the athlete or AAU coach, both of which have incentive to exaggerate the offers actually received in hopes of creating greater interest.

Some college coaches can also be very dishonest. There is a difference between “committable” and “non-commitable” offers. A committable offer a kid can commit on the spot and the school will accept that commitment. Have a kid try to commit on a non-committable offer and watch has fast the coaches backtrack. “Oh, I have to check with the Head Coach”. “Oh, I am not sure so-and-so is leaving now, so we need to wait.”

Also, a kid may get a “non-committable” offer as soph from a school that stopped contacting him a few weeks after. Kids will still list that as an offer when by the time the kid was a senior, he hadn’t heard a peep from that school in two years.

Have no idea what the situation is here, but just giving my view on recruiting.

From how I understand it, players remain the same year eligibility wise, and won’t be given the choice to take the extra year until after their senior year. Could be wrong.

Thx. It just seems like a weird scenario where Blakney, Parker and Anderson are all listed on the roster as seniors, but 2 of the 3 can play another year and there is no notation to separate them.
