Best Big Sky Program to be a Head Coach

I think about this some times and remembered this article from about 4 years. Do you agree? Has much changed? I didn’t remember EWU ranked so highly. I also think Portland is not the city it was 5 years ago. Idaho could be a sleeping giant with the right leadership.

I agree with this in regards to UM:

The knock: “It’s in Montana. Proximity to talent. You’re lucky if you have one player in the state each year.” – Big Sky assistant

Yes, this list is living in the past. MSU is #1 right now. Two Big Sky titles in a row, huge momentum, top of the Big Sky.

I don’t think it is about the best team. It’s about the programs that have the most advantages. Southern Utah was last in this list and they were one of the top Big Sky teams the last couple of years before they left. If they were still in the Big Sky they would be last. Even if they had won two in a row, they still wouldn’t rate very high on this list.

Griz and Weber remain the best jobs in the conference. Jobs are built on money, tradition, facilities and location. UM and Weber are the most storied programs. What MSU has done for two years would need to be sustained for 5 more to even be considered as reaching the same level of program. Remember, team=/ program. You have had a couple of good teams in years where the rest of the traditional league contenders were down. That is not grounds for claiming an elite program. This is just a temporary stretch of dominance that EWU and UM have both had within the last 5-10 years. And, EWUs run did not make it a better job than UM/Weebs. This is no different

It's the risk you take by not making an internal hire. They go with Chris Haslam or Andy Hill and they probably keep everyone together and maybe even convince Jackson Grant to stay. Now they make an external hire and return virtually no one and you're basically gonna have to re-construct the entire roster. I understand the need to make the right hire but when you got this strong of a roster you need to everything you can to keep them together and not set yourself back. We'll see how it all shakes out.

Also I heard Binford lost 2 assistant coaches. Tough time to be a fan of cat hoops

And just like that, international ties are gone too.
