The article about Jimmy Wilson that Roman Stubbs wrote for the Kaimin won first place in the William Randolph Hearst feature writing contest. First place in this competition is about as prestigious an award as a student journalist can win.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program is presented annually under the auspices of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) with full-funding by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The program's mission is to encourage and support excellence in journalism and journalism education in America's colleges and universities.

Hey, look! Roman Stubbs wrote a great story that won him a national prize, $2,000, and a trip to New York City.

Hammer rhymed Kaimin with hymen and got two laughing smilies and a clapping one.

You might have won this round, Hammer, but...

Oh, wait. You lost. Never mind.

I could have sworn you said were done with this website????

Jeez I guess was just getting my hopes up.

Do I really care what an out of state F*ck journalist thinks about my posts??

F*ck No. Now goodbye!!

Jeez, Hammer. You just won four smilies, a clapping one, AND a thumb's up!

And from montanasports, no less! That guy can breathe out of his nose and his mouth! At the same time!

Let me do the math again... National prize, $2,000, and a trip to New York. Four smilies, a case of the clap, carry the one...

Nope. You're still losing.

hmmmmm, William Randolph Hearst, the "father" of what is referred to as "yellow press". congrats there Roman.

Congrats on the article and on the award!

I'm afraid those who are "losing" are the ones who you mentored while you were busy infecting the journalism school with your tabloid style of journalism. Aren't you the one who said... "And if you can make athletes interesting people, well, you can probably make just about anyone an interesting person because athletes tend to be pretty boring. "?

To me that reads like you have to put forth an effort to make an athlete (and probably a coach) interesting to get people interested in reading your article. Now how would you go about making someone who you consider boring interesting? Oh I know...write a story about something that happened months and months ago (and wasn't even news worthy then), make it as controversial as possible, and then make sure to spice it up a bit with only showing one side of the story... you know..the one that sounds better to you and makes it more "interesting".

I'm sorry but the style of journalism that you seem to practice and encourage others to practice is exactly what's wrong with journalism today. Instead of hearing about actual stories that matter and affect the lives of the people in the audience, we get "infotainment" bullshit where "journalists" like you hammer one non-issue topic to death while trying to make it into something it's not... news...

One of the best lectures I attended while at the U of M's journalism school was by a guest speaker that Bill Knowles brought in. His thoughts on what was wrong with journalism today are something I will never forget. It was something that should have been recorded and shown to every new journalism student at the U of M.

I guess the whole situation is over now though, since I'm assuming you are no longer at the U of M trying to mentor the newest Glenn Beck or Harvey Levin wannabe. Good luck to you in your career, and I hope you eventually land at TMZ where your journalism style will be best used making celebrities "interesting" people.

Hey Dexter, can you please link to one of the Beck or Levinesqe pieces that the Kaimin kids wrote either while or since Chris Jones was the adviser?

Either that or STFU.

okthxbi

"djollieballs"... stopped reading right there :D

Glad to see dj's little sidekick Grizmayor showed up in this thread too. I'm sure that makes djollieballs feel special that he finally found someone that agrees with him.

Edit: Oh damn..Grizmayor deleted his post :( I'm sorry djollieballs...

Actually Dex, I figured I shouldn't be presumptive and assume you were a Marxist MSNBC hack. So I deleted the pic of Olbermann taking it up the wazoo from Madcow Rachel with her strapped on tool... Somebody needs to tell me who exactly sends christmas cards to who on this site. I ain't affiliated with anyone... I've even agreed with you on occasion. My family has been in Montana since the '70's.... the 1870's, working hard in small business and the woods and sawmills, plus enjoying a good conservative life, instead of worshipping at the altar of faux Camelot. One thing about dj, he doesn't live in a polyanna fantasy land like liberal welfare-staters. Sometimes reality sucks, put your big-girl panties on and deal with it.

I guess it would be presumptuous of me to assume that you, like most people who throw around "Marxist", "socialist", "fascist", "anarchist", and just about everything else that ends with an "ist", have no idea what it actually means... so I won't make that assumption...

Funny you can tell all that about dj based on some rantings he's posted in the sports forums. Maybe you can invite dj to one of your tea party rallies, or a birther get together and see how he reacts

Anyway, this section isn't the political section...so I won't go into this any further over here. If you want to discuss politics there is a section on the forums for that. I'll leave you with a snippet from a post over there to help you find it :D

Loolz. Please just get as many Tea-Party candidates as possible to run in the elections to siphon votes from the Republican candidates.

LOL... touche'. We'll keep it to FCS-FBS, Tinkle, Pflu-season, and hating the Cats, okay? I don't care if you show up in pink underwear and a "Fidel came in my mouth" tshirt at Wa-Griz, you're my buddy for the next four hours. Republicans got what they got coming for the next seven months by acting like Democrats. No argument there.
My next question is: If there was a softball game down at McCormick... who would be on whose teams and who would the Umps be? You guys on here are criss-crossed all over the effing place with your rants and beliefs. I agree with some of you big time on sports and coach/player evaluations, then find out your sucking Barry Soetoro's Muslim shlong and humping the neighbor's husband. Then I get drilled for a closed-mind because Soviet-politics and pumping the pucker hole is considered "normal" by some of you Cats. Live and let live, right? Odd. Put me down for: Right-leaning, FCS-staying, Pflu-loving, Tinkle-wondering, Bobcat-hater. Who else fits that bill?

Hey there Mr. Bad Reader, and now apparently Mr. Bad Memory, let's see a link or a quote to back up this statement of yours. How can a recent college graduate be so consistently stupid?
