| Located in Missoula along the banks of the Clarkfork River, the University of Montana has a proud tradition of outstanding athletic programs. Lead by 2-time "Big Sky Coach of the Year" Bobby Hauck, Grizzly Football currently owns 15 Big Sky Conference titles and a record 15 consecutive FCS (formally I-AA) playoff berths. The Grizzlies have been to the NCAA FCS National Championship a total of five times. They left National Champions in 1995 and 2001 and earned Runner-up status in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Not to be overshadowed, the University of Montana Basketball Program, also of the Big Sky Conference, has a storied history in both Men's and Women's classifications. The Lady Griz have a winning percentage of .747 over the last 29 years to go along with a total of 21 conference titles and 17 NCAA Tourney appearances and are lead by 18-time "Big Sky Coach of the Year" Robin Selvig. The Men's program has won a total of six league titles and has made the NCAA Tourney seven times. And don't forget "Monte", the 2 time National Mascot of year recipient! U of M hosts 12 NCAA sanctioned athletic programs and enjoys a broad support base from students, alumni, fans, the city of Missoula and indeed the entire state of Montana. And that support certainly shows the most on Grizzly Football game-day, when 25,000+ fans fill the stands of legendary Washington-Grizzly Stadium. What does this say about the University of Montana and the spirit of the Griz? We'll leave that up to you to decide! |
