Possible WR transfer from Oregon

Just in from Eugene, Aaron Pflugrad (son of Robin) has requested and been granted his release from the University of Oregon. No word on what schools he's looking at to transfer, but if Robin ends up joining your coaching staff after his contract is up with UO in June, It wouldn't surprise me if he joined the team. I'm in shock as to why he is transferring. I don't think it was about playing time, as he likely would have been a starter this season, although Oregon does have a slew of young talented receivers and maybe Aaron saw the writing on the wall that he would probably get bumped down the depth chart by mid to late season. Maybe he didn't agree with the coaching philosophy of new Oregon coach Chip Kelly, but for whatever reason, he is transferring somewhere. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, in addition to one redshirt year. At 5'10" 174lbs, he's not the biggest or the fastest guy, but he's a great possession receiver. Runs great routes and catches virtually everything thrown his way. Think of Mariani, but even better. He would be a huge get for you guys if he chooses the Grizzlies. Not to mention, he was born in Missoula.

There was a thread on this sometime ago when it sounded like we were getting Robin and that Aaron sounded as though he wanted to transfer, but I'm too lazy to search for it.

But I certainly agree. If we can land both Pflugrads, that would be a major coup.

As long as we get to keep his sister Amanda, we'll be alright.

It is hard for me to invision any GRIZ WR being better than Mariani. With that said, our depth behind him is inexperienced, or unproven as to what they are capable. All they are now are players with encouraging upside and potential. I would love to have him as part of the rotation. Then again, if KAZ ever gets healthy to see playing time, I do not want anyone taking time from him. YES KAZ is my sentimental favorite at WR. He is from my hometown, and I root harder for the small school kids.

As for his sister transferring, I have room for her to transfer to any Denver area school. Maybe even free room and board. :)

Wasn't Joe Douglas a transfer from Oregon or Oregon State? He was rather small, too. He sure had a knack for making huge arobatic catches. Getting two Plugrads would be great, three would be icing on the cake. I'll see what I can find out this week. I know a good friend of the family. Last I heard is that he might hang here for awhile and play it loose.

my guess is 'he' is pfulgrad and play 'it' loose. so pfulgrad is going to hang out at oregon for a while an play it loose. you dig?

yeah I pretty much gathered that info also. But if I was going to transfer to another school to play football I would want to do it quickly and take part in the summer drills. Playing it loose doesn't make any sense to me.

I disagree with that, Ty Palmer is proven, he played a significant amount of time last year and had probably the 2nd most amazing catch of the season. Also I'd argue that Jabin Sambrano got plenty of experience last year, and it showed in spring ball that his confidence is way up and he's prepared to bust out.

I think that Mariani/Palmer/Sambrano are a great trio, all bring different skill sets and abilities. Kaz is the wild-card (can he stay healthy?) and beyond them you hit the group with encouraging upside and potential.

Who is "he" and what do you mean by "play is loose"?

"He" is Robin Pflugrad. Hang loose means hang in Missoula for awhile and possibly coach if something better doesn't come along. This doesn't mean he will arrogantly take the Grizzly job. What it means is that he has coached in the Pac-10 and has been a head coach candidate. I think he is looking for a Division I staff postion and some upward possiblities.

Remax you are right regarding Palmer and the time Sambrano seen last year. My point is/was neither has proven yet they are able to replace what Ferriter gave us last year. Palmer and Sambrano are most likely to be given that opportunity and team with Mariani as our top 3 WR's. That has yet to be proven, just as our QB production has not been yet. Those are question marks at this point, just as rb was a huge question mark last year. Chase proved to be the man, and then some.

From a talent standpoint I feel the trio of Mariani, Palmer, Sambrano should adequately replace the trio of Mariani, Ferriter, and Schulte/Palmer. We just do not how much more productive anyone beyond Mariani can be. We just know the potential is there, but will it play out that way on the field? I too expect everyone to step up at all the position to replace those we lost last year. Hauck coached teams have proven over time we reload verses rebuild. Being that has been the trend, chances are very likely you will turnout to be right.

Another factor is what kind of adjustment will the offense have with a new QB? How long will it take for our new QB to get on the same page with his WR's, TE, and RB's in the passing game? Can Phenicie actually have back to back productive playcalling seasons? (Last year was the only non Ochs year, I had very little complaints on the playcalling.) Will our new combination of offensive personnel hinder our playcalling for a good majority of the season?

Ideally I am hoping our offensive staff will not go back to old playcalling that held teams back. I hope the coaches learned from prior seasons. The questions and doubts I have are not because of our current players, but more from past history of transition, and RP's reputation. He gained alot of respect from me last year, and much more confidence, but it will take another good year of playcalling for me to have consistent faith in him. I guess I am trying to avoid another let down like 07 when myself and most of GRIZNATION felt we had a sure fire Championship team. Oh we were so let down and so disappointed. That was my hardest offseason to deal with being I had my hopes so high. (Ditto how basketball ended this year.) Either way, we are hoping and expecting the same, just hard for me to have as much faith right now as you do.

With all that said, I always look forward to your GRIZ reports and opinions. I cannot wait for camp to begin, and we can get your updates on the newbies too. I am especially stoked about Dan Moore. By the way everyone here appreciates your insights. Thanks again.

Amanda will stay at Oregon. If indeed, Aaron has been released from his scholarship at Oregon he will, in all likelihood, end up a Griz. He is working out with M. Mariani and really enjoys Missoula and the UM program. Bobby would love him to become a Griz. From what I have gathered he is close, if not, a 4.0 student and is a terrific young man. He would be a very fine addition to the team.

This is a personal matter within the family. Rob is still on the payroll at Oregon. Look for a Griz announcement sometime toward the end of June or first of July as to what coaching postion Rob might take. My guess is that if Robin ends up on the staff Aaron will play for the Griz.
