So who should lose their schollies?

So, the general reaction to today's NDSU ass-whipping of Coastal Carolina is, the Griz are SCREWED. They are not on the level they should be, and posters have called out not just the coaches, but the talent level. SO...since Mick Delaney and the staff will be back next year, and that can't be changed, I would like the Egriz geniuses to call out the talent. Here's your chance to tell us who the coaching staff should dump in order to replace them with better players. Here are who the impact players will be for next year. With a reduction in schollies, and the fact, they have to sign some high school players to build the roster, Who of these impact players should the Griz coaching staff cut right now in order to go find better impact players who can help the Griz win next season?

Offense

QB - Jordan Johnson
RB - Jordan Canada, Travon Van, Joey Counts, John Nyguen, Jamal Wilson, Gavin Hagfors
WR - Ellis Henderson, Jamaal Jones, Taylor Walcott, Mitch Saylor, Sean Haynes, Marq Rogers, Kevin Berland, Chase Naccarrato, TE - Jordan Harper, Noah Scarver, Cooper Sprunk, Mike Ralston
OL - John Schmaing, Trevor Poole, Jordan Hines, Logan Hines, Ben Weyer, Max Kelly, Clint LaRowe, McCauley Todd, Devon Dietrich, Samson Kalikieni.

Defense

DL - Wags, Tonga, Kidder, Holmes, Trevor Rehm, Jesse Ginn, Bo Harris, Derek Crittenden, Ryan Johnson, Zach Peevey.

LB - Connor Lebsock, Kendrick Van Ackeren, Herbert Gamboa, Jeremiah Kose, Kelsey Lippert, Tucker Schye, Connor Straham

DB - Nate Harris, Josh Dennard, Matt Hermanson, J.R. Nelson, Justin Whitted, Zach Gratton, Jamal Anderson, Chris Parker, Ryan McKinley, Marq Russell.

PK - Worst, P - Shaw.

Our coaches don't believe in field goals. Convert Shaw to kicker for PAT's and get rid of Worst - Lider. At least one freed up schollie. If the coaches actually do something crazy and develop a kicker - Keep Worst and get rid of Lider. His brain is now oatmeal. Maybe both leave anyway.

It's a good thing the fans with the memory of goldfish aren't in charge of scholarships or they would've yanked scholarships from Snyder, Carpenter and McKnight. As I've posted in the past and I'm sure I'll post every year we have a Freshman or Sophomore kicker and people want their scholarships yanked:

Snyder
Fr - 16-25 (64%), 7-7 from 20-29, 5-8 from 30-39, 3-8 from 40-49, 1-2 from 50+ (52)
So - 16-30 (53.3%), 3-5 from 20-29, 5-9 from 30-39, 8-14 from 40-49, 0-2 from 50+ (49)

Carpenter
Fr - 18-29 (62.1%), 4-7 from 20-29, 7-10 from 30-39, 7-10 from 40-49, 0-2 from 50+ (49)
So - 14-21 (66.7%), 4-5 from 20-29, 8-8 from 30-39, 1-7 from 40-49, 1-1 from 50+ (50)

McKnight
Fr - 9-16 (56.2%), 3-5 from 20-29, 4-8 from 30-39, 2-3 from 40-49, (LG 46)
So - 15-25 (60%), 6-6 from 20-29, 6-7 from 30-39, 2-7 from 40-49, 1-5 from 50+ (LG 54)

Lider
Fr - 15-21 (71.4%), 1-1 from under 19, 7-8 from 20-29, 2-6 from 30-39, 5-6 from 40-49 (LG 46)

Worst
Fr - 9-17 (52.9%), 2-3 from 20-29, 0-2 from 30-39, 6-10 from 40-49, 1-2 from 50+ (LG 50)

Notice any similarities? They all were not very good their Freshman or Sophomore years. I didn't put Lider's sophomore stats up since he just had 2 attempts this year.

People on eGriz wanted to run McKnight out of town after his Freshman and Sophomore year with his struggles...anyone remember that? Remember us having Ferriter kicking extra points at one point because McKnight couldn't hit them? Good thing the coaching staff then believed in developing kickers and knew kickers don't come in fresh out of high school as amazing kickers.

The biggest question I have at this point regarding our kickers is will this staff stick with kickers and try to develop them into the next McKnight, Snyder and Carpenter, or will they have the knee jerk panic reaction that the fan base seems to have regarding kickers? Guess we'll find out. If they dump our kickers then we get to start the process all over again with yet another freshman struggling.

I say keep Worst and bring in someone who can really coach him up and improve his technique.

Rather I think someone should lose a scholarship or not, no need to post it here. Not here to bash on individual players. The only way a kid should lose a scholarship would be for dumb off the field decisions and being a detriment to the program. Overall, GRIZNATION should be proud of our players for the people they are.

Cut everyone. We suck. I think UM should pull the plug on our failure of a Football program and we can all buy tickets to watch NDSU games on the jumbotron in WA-Griz every Saturday.

If we're going to have a complete overhaul of the program, let's broaden this. Which coaches should have their salaries reduced or get smaller offices? Same with the athletic department. Should the cheer squad or dance team get a bigger budget for new outfits? Which fans should have their season tickets taken away, or be moved to the south end zone? Which posters should have their avatars removed, or altered? Which posters should not be allowed to use emoticons?

i think you should go back to being green26. the griz played at a higher level when you used that alias. it is posters like you who change their screen names who are the problem. if you had balls, you'd go back to being greenie, and start talking about the "box" a lot again. what a bandwagon fan.

The kickers you mentioned had something in common. Good coaching. Not gonna happen with angry grandpa at the helm using the 1930's reverse psychology motivation trick. Kids are different these days.

Is it impossible for Shaw to do it all? McNight did it... get rid of Worst and Lider both. I hate to say that, but something has to happen. If you can't play, you can't stay. Thats my opinion.

Would you have gotten rid of Carpenter, Snyder and McKnight (who I listed above) who weren't very good their freshman or sophomore years?

How about Matt Prater from University of Central Florida? You know, the guy who just broke the NFL record for longest kick with the Broncos? Here were his stats in college:

PATs:
Fr: 44 out of 47 (3 missed)
So: 23 out of 24 (1 missed)
Jr: 12 out of 14 (2 missed)
Sr: 29 out of 32 (3 missed)

FGs:
Fr: 14-21 (66.7%) 7-8 from 20-29, 3-5 from 30-39, 3-6 from 40-49, 1-2 from 50+ (LG 53) 3 blocked
So: 10-13 (76.9%) 1-1 from 1-19, 2-2 from 20-29, 3-6 from 30-39, 4-4 from 40-49 LG 46
Jr: 9-14 (64.3%) 1-1 from 20-29, 3-7 from 30-39, 4-5 from 40-49, 1-1 from 50+ (LG 51)
Sr: 17-26 (65.4%) 4-5 from 20-29, 6-9 from 30-39, 7-12 from 40-49 (LG 49)

Maybe we are expecting a little too much out of our freshman and sophomore kickers ya think? We seem to expect them to come in playing at a probowl NFL level when in fact there aren't a lot of kickers (even those in the NFL now) who were able to put up awesome numbers in college their first two years...

Here's a challenge for the Griz fans that think we need to boot kickers who don't amaze their Freshman year. Find me ONE kicker in Griz history who was great as a Freshman. And don't just go by memory... I want to see stats as proof.

I'll wait... go ahead :)

I thought this was pretty clear after we lost big to NAU and then the Bobcats beat them bad shortly thereafter. Right then I knew we couldn't compete with the Cats.

Ok ok ok, lol. Let me clarify. What I was getting at is the boat is to full of lose weight. I mean, why do we need 3 kickers? Technically 2 and a punter. Shaw has a monster leg on him. I'm not sure about his accuracy but we know he can punt. Lider and Worst... someone needs to make up their mind cuz, IMO, its seems liked a wasted scholarship or 2. Two that could be used on a couple solid tackling machines. Or a reciever or 2. Or a couple DBs.
I'm not tryin to run the kids into the ground but the Griz can't really afford to waste any scholarships right now.
(Nice stat work, as usual!! Very Nice!)

Worst, Lider and Greenburg aren't all on schollie. I doubt any of em' are right now, maybe Worst and Lider sharing one but it's doubtful the're using two fulls.
