Rumor on the street is that Griz assistant coach Freddie Owens is on a very shot list to get the open Assistant job at Wisconsin. Owen's played his college ball for Wisconsin so he would be returning home. This would be a tough loss for the Griz, he was making real head way for them into Wisconsin prep basketball. Two recruits he was pursuing for the Griz in Wisconsin was/is, Haki Stampley a 6-4 guard from Milwaukee Hamilton high school and Mitchell Farr a 6-2 guard from Racine Case high school. Both played for Owen's good friend and former AAU coach.

Any update on this, Mcat?

Sorry I had an update on my Blog. I have heard he has been offered the job but i have not seen an announcement any where

I watched Freddie working with the "bigs" in the north aux. gym yesterday. He sure didn't look like a coach on his way out. He was working hard. After watching him, I was impressed and don't want to lose him. Are you sure he's leaving?

My source in Wisconsin now says that an assistant from Akron is among the leaders along with an assistant from Northern Iowa. Owens is a distance thrid

selfishly I really hope he stays....love what he's done as a recruiter in a short time with us.....thanks for keepin us posted Mslacat :thumb:

I agree with baller, for selfish reasons beneficial to the GRIZ, I am glad Owens is still at Montana. Please do not leave Freddie.

When it was posted that Freddie had the job, he hadn't even interviewed for it. Nice source.

a little harsh don't you think? MslaCat basically keeps the bball board alive. He has never tried to cover for a miss and is always up front that he is not the FINAL word on UM or MSU hoops. He is a Cat fan and does all of his research on his own time. I for one am very thankful for what he does do to the lack of BSC bball info. At least he is man enough to admit when he is wrong unlike some other posters on this board ;)

BTW - did mslacat ever confirm that Ownen's was taking the job? Or did he just say that his sources had told him that Owen's was a leading canidate? big difference between the two. I trust you did your research though

Here's one of the thing MCat said: "I have heard he has been offered the job but i have not seen an announcement any where." I assume you know the difference between "had the job" and "offered the job" rather than "taken the job", or do you? At this point, he had not interviewed. Yes, I did my homework. I asked another coach. Yes, MCat provides good info on UM hoops, altho I have to chuckle when some of it is dead wrong or out of date. Nevertheless, better than what most are posting. MCat is fine, but he has said several bad and wrong things in the past about UM stuff, including players, like Mike Murphy a number of year ago. I didn't like that, and I told him so. He is better when he sticks to the hoops board. He seems to get his info by research and legitimately. He doesn't stalk coaches or players, or tattle on them, like posters do.

you do not want to start this with me AGAIN..... I will make you look even dumber than you've already made yourself look and quite frankly I've become bored with doing that because it is to easy.

once again you've backpedaled after i've called you out. Your initial post said that it was posted that Freddie had the job...when did MslaCat say he "had the job"??? He mentioned that he was a top candidate for the job at Wisc. You are contradicting yourself AGAIN.

Look, Baller, I'm willing to take you on anytime. You are an idiot. Even some of your friends think that.

Are you going to try to argue that there is a substantive difference between "had the job" and "offered the job"? If so, let's here what you have to say.

There is indeed a difference between reporting "had" and "offered".... obviously you feel stupid AGAIN and are trying to discredit me personally in a public forum to draw attention away from your own personal insecurities. Admit you made an incorrect generalization of MslCats posts, and move on. Get a life.

Sorry I had an update on my Blog. I have heard he has been offered the job but i have not seen an announcement any where -Mslacat

Well in the case of "had the job" he would have to move and he would sequently be paid by his new employer. In having been "offered the job" he retains his current job, stays where he is, and continues to be paid by his current employer. Those differences aren't "substantive"???? Then what exactly does substantive mean (to you)? And sorry but inventing your own reality won't win any points with me.

Listen my original source, from Wisconson, was a darn reliable and knowledgeable source. The rumor about Owens getting the job also made it on a few internet sites. I have a friend who is a D-1 who also told me Owens was after the job, and finally I have a friend in Missoula close to the basketball program who told me Owens was interviewing.

But you know what, I blew it. He did not get the job. I get things wrong sometimes, and I do not mind being called out when I get things wrong.

I don't think you blew it, or got anything wrong....you reported that Owens was a legitimate candidate for the job. he was. then you reported that he did NOT get the position. he didn't. Not sure how anybody could have a problem with that.

Actually in my blog I stated I thought he had the job. In any case the point is I do not mind it when people point out when I got things wrong. It keeps me honest.
