The last time the Montana cross country teams took to the course, they did so on the snowy and frozen University of Montana Golf Course in winter conditions. This week will be a slightly different environment as they head south to Lubbock, Texas for the NCAA Mountain Regional on Friday, Nov. 10.

The Grizzly cross country teams exceeded preseason expectations at a Big Sky Championship meet in snowy conditions on Friday afternoon at the University of Montana Golf Course. The men finished sixth overall, matching the highest finish by Montana since 2015, while the women moved up a spot to eighth.

The University of Montana Department of Athletics has expanded its partnership with INFLCR, a national leader in the Name, Image, and Likeness space, to launch "The Griz NIL Exchange," a new platform that will provide new opportunities for UM student-athletes to connect with outside businesses and organizations for NIL partnerships.

The Montana cross country team finished off the regular season with an exclamation point on Saturday morning in Lewiston, Idaho. The men finished second in the field and as the top Big Sky team while the women were fourth. Both teams had career-best times across the board as the young Grizzlies continue to improve.

The elk have made their way to Mount Jumbo. It's where they congregate in the winter, where the food is more plentiful and accessible, where they huddle together to get through the harshest of Montana's seasons. It's not the carefree time of summer, more a season of just getting through, the next station in life. Kris Nord watches them from his window on the western side of Missoula's Rattlesnake neighborhood. He's seen them before but never really watched them, examined them, tracked them, not like he's doing these days. It's an opportunity and perspective that comes with retirement.
