First, and you have all heard this before, there is no such thing as a Big Sky ref. In the western US the officials are managed as a group by a consortium established for that purpose. However, there is a twist that may make it seem as though you are seeing the same guys multiple times. The highest rated and usually most experienced refs get to choose where they want to go first, while the least experienced and lowest rated guys get the leftovers. So, where do you think that leaves many of our BSC venues?

Also, each year the refs are given a set of ruling points for emphasis. They are told to watch some things more closely because of complaints from coaches the previous year. Most years those points of emphasis are what we see as over zealous refs. What we are really seeing is the less eperienced refs trying their best to do what they are told and the more experienced refs taking it all with a grain of salt. Thus, what may appear like a double standard. By the end of the season, it all seems to level off.

At Weber, last night, we were lucky to have one of the old guard refs to moderate the other two. one of the other two was a hot head who seemed mad at the world, He even tried to have a fan removed, and the other was a newbie who was mostly clueless. There were a few head scratchers, but for most of the game the old guard ref kept things moderated.

When we travel to the less assessable venues in the BSC it can be a crap shoot on who might be assigned to call our games.

Good luck at UNCo.
But, but it's so easy to blame the refs....

It puzzles me how the kids are able to play this game with Travis on the sidelines screaming go here go there. When they get the ball they are looking at him for direction, hasn’t anybody else noticed. He cannot be a coach on the sidelines and a point guard on the court. You guys who go to the games must see this. Let the kids play. They know what to do. The reason you don’t get offensive rebounds is, when they’re on defense Travis directs 2 guards to the corners. 🤣

I've noticed a lot of the refs I long considered the best in the Big Sky calling several Pac 12 games this season. But the games I've watched this season have been well officiated by a significant core of young newcomers.
ALSO: I've summarized the following from a June article published by the NCAA. During summer officiating meetings (considering several proposed rule changes) special note was made that referees for all D1 conferences have been directed to focus on two main priorities for this season:
1 -- To significantly reduce situations where players enact "fake" fouls, whether by flopping or falling back or by jerking their heads to "fake" an armbar or elbow foul. Refs for 2021 have now been given authority to assess warnings or call technicals against players who fake or flop.
2-- The NCAA also gave officials broader authority to request fan expulsion from games (with no pre-warning necessary) for any negative, or feigned aggressive physical gestures or language directed by fans at players or officials.
Also under consideration, but NOT made a rule for 2021-22: The consideration of allowing players 6 fouls per game, OR, considering how fouls are assessed to allow players to remain on-court if they get two quick fouls. Sort of complicated, but the rule under consideration would allow for six player fouls per game UNLESS a player is assessed four fouls in the first half. If he/she gets four first-half fouls, he/she would then foul out on the fifth foul, not on the sixth foul.
