Classic Game Thread (Includes 95 Championship). Make sure you have at least 3 hours.

My hardcore fandom just started in 2018. I will religiously watch every game since I love LOVE defense.

Watching the USD game...a few thoughts come to mind:

What ever transpired between Stitt and Jannsen the next year that led to his departure? That kid had promise.

Herbert Gamboa was FAST!

Oh, for a back like Jordan Canada again..

What would have been had Jordy not been forced to miss a year...
A better question is what would have been had Pflugrad not been forced out.

Well that one goes without saying.

As a follow up: f***[*] was Tonga Takai a beast in the middle. We haven't had a NT presence like that since.

I would love to have a NT like Tonga again, just a hard position to get talent like that at consistently at this level.

Full 09 app state game

I never get tired of this game. It's my favorite game of all time, any level. Loved this game.

I liked the JMU play off game almost as much as this one. I met an Appstate players mom at the Hilton I was staying at that weekend, she was a wonderful person and I enjoyed our conversation immensely. I welcomed her to Missoula, provided some dining options and wished her and her son the best. I dont recall her or her son's name but he was a starter on defense. We talked for a good 45 minutes over breakfast. Wonderful fan base, very classy, that's what I remember most of ALL the AppState fans I met. Great group of folks who have few if any peers.

I still can't get over the fact that Pennington, and not Dickenson, had an NFL career.
Not too many 18 year old frosh take their team into the NC game. He later played a lot of FBS ball and grew his skills substantially. The pros always like the 6'3" much more than the 5'10".

Always worth the watch. Jerome's defense stole the show. Mike Bouchee did his best Dante Olson impression; was all over the field in a great game; very underrated player. And can't say enough about Mike Erhardt.

As Kem notes, Pennington was the QB when Marshall transitioned to FBS. He helped them win their first bowl game, and – I vaguely recall – was in the running for a Heisman. He also set a bunch of school records for The Herd. So Pennington got to showcase his skills in a way that Dickenson never had a chance to do. Add in Dave's (lack of) height and he was not likely to even get a sniff from the NFL at draft time. He only got a tiny shot as an NFL backup after he lit it up in the CFL ... and that didn't last long.

This won’t be exciting for everyone but I love watching stuff from this era. This is blood and guts football @ it’s finest and they gave WSC all they could handle.

The passing game is reminescent of Murray and Andersen.
