I think the roster needed a overhaul. As many have said the size inside was a problem and caused the team to pretty much give up on offensive rebounding. The ability to create inside shots and rebound will make this offense look way better this season. I believe this team will be better than last year.

According to KenPom, here are Montana’s ranks in offensive rebounding percentage (out of 358 teams):

1. 2022 – 355
2. 2021 -307
3. 2020 -347
4. 2019 -202
5. 2018 – 37
6. 2017 -221
7. 2016 -217
8. 2015 – 286

IMO, Travis does not care about offensive rebounds. I think his scheme sacrifices offensive rebounding for transition defense.

Not saying I disagree about his calculation on the subject, but those numbers point to personnel in recent years. The difference in physical talent and skill level has not trended well. And I confess I'm in the crowd that tends optimistic about every new recruiting class. So I hope this years group breaks trend, the size alone is promising for an eternal optimist.

In 2017-18, UM had players averaging 6.6, 5.5, 5.1, 5.1 4.3, 3.9. Akoh, Oguine, Moorehead, Kryslovic, Pridgett, Rorie. This past season, Bannon had 8.8 and Parker 3, with Anderson with a 3.3 average but few rebounds due to injury.

I hear ya and hope you are right. But I guess I am old enough to remember when Steadman was 1st Team pre-season all Big Sky.

I just would have preferred transfers with more success at the D-1 level. But as you say, maybe this class breaks the trend!
