LB play this week vs Sac State

One of the expected improvements with our LB play this year vs. last year is that they we are quicker and potentially better in pass coverage this year than we were last year. This week, that theory will be tested. Will we be good enough to rely on our LB's to stay in base 4-3 or will we have to bring in an additional DB against Sac State?
Without Van Ackeren, will that still be the case?
Go Griz!

On tonight's radio show, Mick stated that Van Ackeren is doing very well after having what appears to be a minor concussion. He expects Van Ackeren to play this weekend.

Other than Van Ackeren, there didn't appear to be any new injuries. Kose is beat up and I believe he has a torn meniscus but will continue to play.

Wow!
That is great news. Will Kose, Van Ackeren and Gamboa be able to cover the Sac State backs and receivers or will we be switching to the nickel from time to time?
It could be the difference in the game if we are able to stay with our base 4-3 the majority of the game.

No, they won't be able to cover, or no it won't be the difference in the game?
no

People keep saying that the MSU/CP game is the most anticipated. I would have to say the the UM/Sac game is just as intriguing. Sac has more of an explosive offense as opposed to a ground and pound like CP. I am interested in seeing how the griz D handles an offense that can score from anywhere on the field.

I am drawing this conclusion from an entirely different thread, but he is the expert on ED. It is no premature ej...... if you take Cialis.

I agree. This game could give a sneak peak at the EWU/Griz game and the Griz/ Cat game to follow.
Go Griz!

We will never switch to nickel more than 1 or 2 plays the whole game, if recent history is an indication.
Sac State is the first of three pass heavy teams we will face.
Past history was against more of run heavy teams.
Go Griz!

The three most anticipated events on Saturday are the MSU game, the UM game, and the shit storm melt down holocaust that happens on this board Saturday night..... if SAC takes you down.

Oh sweet Jesus. This place would have a thermonuclear meltdown if they lose Saturday.

What happens if YOU lose on Saturday? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

If the Cats lose, which is very possible, they will have one loss in conference and still be tied for 1st place. That keeps them in the hunt for a title, and the playoffs.

If the Cats lose, which is very possible, they will have one loss in conference (as EWU was non-conference the most convenient year possible) and still be tied for 1st place. That keeps them in the hunt for a title, and the playoffs.

I agree

The Griz have 1 conference loss.. And the only other team I'm worried about is EWU. Griz will beat MSU. Bank on it.

I agree, and I am very happy that we didn't have to play NAU, WSU, and ISU, because we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I would be a little more worried.
Griz average 27 ppg, and the three game rolling average is 27. Stagnant
Griz allows an average of 21 ppg, and the three game rolling average is 28.
The Griz are trending the wrong way in rushing defense, rushing offense, and passing defense also. Passing offense is trending positively for the Griz.

In conclusion, as the Griz play the better offenses, which is what is left for them on the schedule, the spread of the points against and points for is getting larger. Definitely not a good trend.
