I think Kyles tweeted quote is really scary:

KPCC Radio in LA reported that UCLA has cut power to non essential buildings “until further notice to restore power to medical and critical facilities."

somebody set those fires.....terrorism

If you think about it, that’s a pretty easy way to cause mayhem and destruction. You just need the right conditions and a small bit of fuel. The Japanese tried to do that during WW2 with incendiaries on balloons in the Jet Stream. Actually killed 6 people with them.

On a somewhat related note, the book, "The Big Burn" is quite good and involves the area around our beloved instituiton of higher learning. The primary subject matter is the massive fires of 1910. Also gives an interesting history of the early National Forest Service born from the minds of GP (not GrizPony) and TR (not Timm Rosenbach).

Have they determined the cause yet? It is really bad that it burns the homes. Why couldn't it burn the ghetto's? People finally make it and get out of the ghetto, build a decent house and wham! They have nothing! Fire is very final! People stay safe!

Fires are only important when theyre in California....Montana gets no coverage or help.

ding, ding, ding!

Nobody in LA cares about Montana. Most of them think it’s cabins in the woods with no running water. Why should they care about a bunch of confederates out in the sticks?

Now they get a healthy dose of reality. It takes Bel Air burning to get people’s GD attention.

Im hoping this sheds some light on the whole issue of land management.

I live in Colorado and got a letter in the mail the other day from 1 of our representatives just about that. It has started.

My wife's family lives in Ventura county. Currently just south of Ventura. So far, so good. Her niece is between LA fires and Santa Paula fires. Probably going to have to evacuate.

Just because you don't live in California, it doesn't mean that people others care about don't. It's easy to hack on California, but some of don't care where others live. We just care...

...california the land of fruits and nuts...
...evacuation down to sunset and bel air...
...literally the north border of ucla campus...

... :( ...
