... Thursday's vote killed the motion, this time via a 26-to-14 standing count. And while the Faculty Senate exists in this matter only as an advisory body for the chancellor and possesses no authority to make a final decision on the fate FBS football at UMass, the continued opposition suggests the issue won't be going away any time soon.

After butting heads with faculty members for four years over a decision to make the jump from the FCS to the FBS that was made prior to his arrival at UMass, [Chancellor Kumble] Subbaswamy's patience with the opposition appears to be growing thin.
