Season averages(against UM)

Not trying to take anything away from the D but our stats arn't quite representative of how well we've played. Yes are overall #'s are good but exept for Wyo and NDSU, the competition hasn't been great and were not exactly shutting em down. I compared the oppositions averaged to what we held them too and more often then not, they reach or surpass their season averages. Only 3 of our seven games have we held a team under their avg in passing, rushing, or scoring.

An alarming trend is in the total yards allowed. The 1st three games we held teams under their average. Since then we've allowed about 25 yards/game avg over their season totals with the latest(UCD) getting almost 50 yards over their average.

Where we have excelled is not allowing teams to score. Only twice has a team scored more then their avg( by 3.5 pts) and four times we've held them below including holding NDSU 10 pts below. On average we hold teams 5.3 pts below thei average.

Anyway, we got our work cut out still.

Interesting stats. We all should know that any defense has to be judged against great offenses, and great teams. As I said in an earlier post, we will have a more definitive view of just how good our defense after we play a couple of better teams.

Remember, if Adams doesn't play or is limited because of that foot injury, the EWU game becomes a toss-up IMO. Getting by Poly is a huge first step to finishing the season strong.

I don't think Adams will be a 100% if he plays or not and that right there gives us a shot at getting the coaching staff their first win against a team that has been to the playoffs but we still have two teams we still have to play before the EWU game..

It's gonna be interesting, that's for sure..

"but we haven't beat any playoff teams yet."

dah

How many have we played?

one -- NoDak State.

we're 3-0 since then, but we just smashed pumpkins since then...

Dude! Just dunk your head in the toilet.. This coaching staff has NEVER beat a team that has made it to the playoffs..

Meh, you play the teams on your schedule. Plenty of chances to prove themselves coming up.
And that goes for everybody. Here's a summary of the top three teams in the Big Sky (all undefeated in conference).
EWU (7-1, 4-0 in conference) – Beat a 3-5 NAIA team, lost to a 5-2 FBS.
. . Cumulative record of FCS opponents: 17-27 (39%).
MSU (6-2, 4-0) – Beat a 2-5 D-II, lost to a 4-2 FBS.
. . Cumulative record of FCS opponents: 19-26 (42%).
UM (5-2, 3-0) – Beat a 4-3 D-II, lost to a 3-5 FBS.
. . Cumulative record of FCS opponents: 15-20 (43%).

You can nit-pick about individual results (EWU close game with UW, clearly the "best" of the FBS losses). But you know what? Overall, there's not much to choose among the three teams.

We'll all admit that NDSU is the class of FCS, having beaten their FBS opponent. So let's go to #3 New Hampshire, out of the CAA.
UNH (5-1, 3-0 in conference) – Lost to 4-3 FBS, no play-down game.
. . Culumative record of FCS opponents, 15-16 (48%).

New Hampshire's record looks a bit better than the three top BSC ... but even their opponents have not been amazingly good either.
