...it's not about disrespecting the flag...
...it's about calling attention to racial injustice...
...what is so fcuking difficult to understand about that...
...if you're a racist..own it..don't watch football..you're not missed...

... ...

I finally get it. He wasn't disrespecting the flag because the flag has no role during the National Anthem. Oh wait that's not it. He's wasn't disrespecting the military because they never bear the flag during the nation Anthem. Oh wait, that's not it. He was protesting racial injustice because there aren't enough black athletes in the NFL. Oh wait, that's not it. He's not disrespecting his teammates, owners and fans because he's doing this on his own time on his own property. Oh wait, that's not it. He's not disrespecting our political process because he's doing it in City Halls, in State Capitols, on Federal enclaves at public hearings. Oh wait, that's not it.

I guess i don't get it, but I have figured out as long as we believe what he says about his protest over where, when and how he only does his protest, then we'll be insulated from knee jerk pc labels of being racist. Got it!!!! And folks, that's all there is to know that's not so fcuking hard to understand.

Well said. Sad but true. We're off the tracks - maybe the mods can move this out of here and into the political forum so we can get back to what we all agree on, Griz rule!

Go Griz!

...dude..back off the m and m's...

You can pretend Kaepernik has done something brave and noble all you want. That's what's great about this country. You can even ignorantly and anonymously throw labels at people you don't know, as a means of avoiding rational discussion on a topic. You might even try to do it in mini lines of prose.

Back to topic. Do you even slightly get my devil's advocacy is to make the point Nike's research and marketing and advertising geniuses might have misread the tea leaves on this issue? Time will tell but I've yet to see where the fans offended are saying they are only offended by the black players protesting but not the whites or Hispanics that join them. If that is the case, you might have a case for racism for those that think that way. In any event, my take is that the feelings on this subject run deeper than Nike's brain trust anticipated.

Well its worth a shot in here since Kyle Sample gets to do it...... Ive got a pair of Air Jordan retro 3's for sale, size 14. Now these shoes are during the pre-ban times so I figured they would be worth a little more. Im asking 1500 dollars. Hit me up if your interested.

You have good taste in sizing

To me this is simple. This is America. Force allegiance is not allegiance. You have the right to stand or sit. The Anthem also means a lot to people for very, very valid reasons. My uncle lost his legs in Vietnam and eventually his life to what we think was agent orange exposure. I will always stand, but not judge those who don't. I don't know what it is like to be a young black man in America who feels like this might be his only way to be heard. I also respect those who choose to boycott NFL and Nike because of their strong feelings.

I don't support the "fire them" mentality or the threat of bodily harm. I don't think Kaepernick is not patriotic and I don't brand those that disagree as racist.

Getting back (a little bit) to football: Anyone see his "collusion" lawsuit against the NFL going anywhere? There seems to be evidence that NFL owners have colluded in the past ... but not on things like this. The reality is that teams are so desperate for talent, they hardly ever worry about the off-the-field "baggage" associated with a player -- IF he can perform. This has been proven again and again.

Kaepernick had his moments, but his playing style/capabilities simply do not qualify him for any current NFL offense. The tryout with Seattle (presumably to back up Russell Wilson) was probably his best chance to get a slot, and (for whatever reason) that didn't pan out.

BTW MODS: This thread has strayed way far away from FCS/Griz football (don't give a damn about the Nike connection). Shouldn't it be banished?

Just thought I'd drop this in regarding Kapernick.

Now the Castro's and this Che Guevara were buddies .
Make sure you pay attention to the last paragraph.
I guess everyone needs to stand (oops I mean kneel ) for something

After the July 1959 overthrow of Batista’s regime, Che presided over the first firing squads and established labor camps across the country modeled after the Soviet gulags. He acted as judge, jury and executioner of which he personally took pride. He wrote in his essay,

“To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary… These are the procedures of the bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. We must create the teaching of the Wall!”

To invoke the Berlin Wall built by his comrades from Russia, was a testament to the process of dealing with dissidents and the elimination of opposition of the newly formed communist Cuban dictatorship; and eliminate they did.

Through these newly formed labor camps, Che ordered the death of hundreds of thousands of helpless Cubans including women and children as young as 14 years old. He personally executed over 180 individual people, though some say much more fell at his own hands. A special detail at the camps was appointed to deal with the “gay problem” as they were imprisoned as well and journalists were given no free voice as promised.

Following the takeover of the government, this newly formed Soviet backed regime created a police state that incarcerated a greater percentage of its people than Joseph Stalin’s regime.

During the Kennedy administration in 1962, after much debate as to whether the Soviets even had any involvement with the Cuban revolution or its development of its government, Russian Premier Nikita Khrushchev worked with Castro to place nuclear-armed ballistic missiles in Cuba, ending one debate by beginning a new one.

After Kennedy met with the Soviet representatives, the event ended without nuclear war and the missiles were removed. However, Che was not happy with the outcome and both he and Castro felt betrayed by their Soviet big brother. Che was quoted in the Cuban Socialist newspaper The Daily Worker as saying, “if the rockets had remained, we would have used them all and directed them against the very heart of the United States, including New York…”

In 1965, after securing Castro’s supremacy in Cuba, Che was contracted by the Russians to help spread the Soviet expansion by aiding and training the rebels in Congolese Africa. While there he became frustrated with the lack of progress the revolution had achieved against the “European invaders.” Especially disappointing was that their love of violence did not meet or exceed his. He voiced his frustrations by stating,

“The blacks, those magnificent examples of the African race who have conserved their racial purity by a lack of affinity with washing, have seen their patch invaded by a different kind of slave: the Portuguese…. the black is indolent and fanciful, he spends his money on frivolity and drink; the European comes from a tradition of working and saving which follows him to this corner of America and drives him to get ahead.”

When he decided to leave Africa and abandon the Soviet expansion efforts there he later spoke on a radio talk show with Louis Pons and stated,

“We’re going to do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the revolution. By which I mean: nothing.”

The ONLY way this will have an effect on UM is if UM decides that it no longer wants to continue its affiliation with Nike. That will not and should not happen.

Nike knows what they are doing. This thread is a lot about nothing.

Haters gonna hate, take the stand and be strong, that will go a long way.

Who do you define as haters? People who believe the Flag is something worth standing up for? Something that people have actually died for? Or is it just the people who think Nike made a very poor choice along with a poor choice of words thinking Mr K actually sacrificed something? I see on this thread people who are more concerned about getting their free stuff then standing up for something that is noble. I think I saw that during an election video some time ago when a women said "I don't care who wins, I just want my free stuff."
You must learn what the protest is all about, it's not about the flag. I believe they are trying to tell you about racial inequality. Maybe you have heard about that.
donny t wants you to believe the flag part.
