New Griz Commit-Lonnell Martin Jr.

Am watching the Otero game right now. Kid looks very smooth. Other teams defense seems to be very keyed in on him. Has 8 pts on 3/4 shooting and 2/3 from deep while I’ve been watching. Hit a 3 from Dame range going into the half. A good wing player and, let’s just say he won’t be hesitating on any open shots.

Not necessarily a bad thing with us having some good, but not real confident, shooters. Watched the boys pass up lots of good looks.

Martin finished with 27 pts, 8 rebs, 7 asts, and 5 TOs on 9/14 shooting, 7/12 for 3 and 2/3 from the line.

Earning some high praise. This guy predicted Oral Roberts over Ohio St and to the sweet 16 before Selection Sunday, and predicted a Gonzaga undefeated season last summer as well. Complain about guards all you want, this dude can play.

Lots of you have pointed out the Griz are deep in guards, but have a need of big men. I used 'guards' as a pun.

He’s gonna be solid. Any guy who can hit 7 threes in a game is worth having on your roster.

OK, be forewarned, this is sarcasm. Let's go with five shootin' star guards. Don't need big men. We hit all our three's, they get their two point bunnies. Final score will be in the 3:2 range. Undefeated all the way. NC every year. Of course, if the shooters have a bad night, or two, or ten, back to square one.

He is a tough kid from Flint, Michigan. He is not some little point guard, he is 6'4 and solid. Put one big guy in the lineup and the other 4 can be a variety of types of guys. People forget that Sayeed was only 6'5. This kid is a great addition.

A little snarl in the attitude wouldn't hurt.

So basically what you are saying is that all of our players averaged more than 20ppg in high school and they get to Montana and all of sudden become afraid to shoot?

I wonder if that has more to do with the players or the coaching and offensive system a lack thereof that contributes to not shooting, you have to wonder what they are being told. Maybe it's time we consider that as well.
