Jeremy Calhoun

I've been updating my printable roster today and was looking for true freshmen that have been playing. The Big Sky Conference stats list has a section called Participation Report. These are the true freshmen I spotted.

Jeremy Calhoun is listed on the Participation Report for the Liberty game. An error?

The one player that doesn't make sense is No. 38 Jeffrey Salamon, a true freshman wide receiver. He is credited with only making tackles. Why would they burn his redshirt year to make tackles on special teams? Was he mixed up with No. 38 Tyrel Garner, a junior cornerback?

84-Donovan Rooks

I cringe every road game, because the tv announcers always get players wrong. They don't do their homework well enough unfortunately.

It was comical in the UC Davis game when the announcer said that #8 SAFETY Manu Rassmussan was carrying the ball at runningback for the Griz!!! When it was CLEARLY Running Back Jeremy Calhoun.

#82 J. Louie-McGee is a tiny true freshman walkon that hasn't seen the light of day yet, and the announcers confuse him for a half-foot taller and 30 lbs heavier Keenan Curran?!?!

Take the announcing, and thus participation reports, with a grain of salt. And take for them for what they are worth. I agree that UM needs to make sure they correct these erros however.

When you have multiple players with the same jersey number & no names on the jerseys, it is bound to cause some confusion.

Also note that Keenan Curran changed his number from earlier in the season - I believe he is now 82. Not sure if the roster has been updated. I know the announcers were calling him J. Louie-McGee on Saturday.

The game recap also gave Caleb Lyons credit for a 15 yard run on his fly sweep - that is actually a pass and should have counted as receiving yards for him and passing yards for Chalich.

Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that these things are a mess with many, many mistakes each week.

They should have just left the names on the uniforms...besides the +/- $3K saved was hardly worth it.

Is it really so hard for someone to talk to a coach and ask which true freshmen have played? I'm not in QB club but assuming someone on here is. Biggest mystery of the year and apparently the participation reports aren't accurate. How in fact does NCAA confirm whether a kid has played and if he would or wouldn't be eligible for a redshirt?

Hopefully Lwood's injury isn't season ending. Committee would take a significant hit if so.

I'm happy that Jeremy is off redshirt so we can utilize his talents.

Also, no need to throw Nguyen under the bus. The guy has busted his ass for us.

Go Griz!

Yep ^ JN gives us the best he's got every game. The kid is tough and talented. I, for one, am glad he's a Griz.
Having said that, looking forward to JC packing the rock. And him to the rotation of JN, Favors, Logwood & Counts (if those guys are healthy), and it might just be the shot in the arm the running game needs.
GO GRIZ!

i agree on all accounts.......jn deserves our support, really looking forward to seeing jc play this weekend. great place to start getting more acclimated.....field day at home and against weber.

Sample size is small, but Calhoun looked good running the ball. Wouldn't mind seeing him getting a good amount of carries to set up the running game and have Nguyen come in as more of a "change of pace back." I do agree with everyone though that Nguyen has had some bad luck in terms of run blocking and has played his heart out. Very few mistakes by him this year, he can still be an important part of this offense.

The television teams are just reading the rosters the person from the U hands them. If the party responsible were to give a flying f$&k about what was being reported, they'd put one together that would give the offense - defense designations, so that the announcers wouldn't have to guess or sound as if they didn't do their homework. Let's hope the NC2A gets actual information. But again, who knows.

The only TRUE frosh to play snaps in an FCS football game for the Griz this season is Calhoun on Saturday at Davis. Markell Sanders and Keenan Curran are RS frosh.

that is what had me confused. I was looking at my roster and thinking that he looked way bigger than I figured he was but there he was wearing 82. The only hard part about no names on the jerseys. Also there appears to be several players wearing the same number, such as #1.

That kid just bleeds maroon. A terrific heart. But man, I hate seeing him sent up the middle on play after play, just to get squashed at the bottom of a pile for a yard or two.

I would like to see Nyugen get a shot at the fly sweep. Having him get to the corner with a head of steam, a couple of WRs blocking, and with his ability to stick his foot in the ground...

Jukes and jives too much and doesn't have the burst to get around the corner.

If you get the inside slot guy to set the edge, Nguyen is there in 3 quick steps, with a running start, then he's sticking his foot in the ground, which is not juking and jiving.

Keenan Curran's military prep school background apparently doesn't count as college credit. He is listed on the UM roster as a true freshman. http://www.gogriz.com/roster.aspx?path=football

According to the Air Force Preparatory Scholl FAQ document
http://www.usafa.edu/Superintendent/pl/FAQs/FAQInProcessing.pdf

Page 7
5. Courses taken at the Preparatory School are solely to prepare you for success at the Air Force Academy. Therefore, they are non-accredited and college credits are not awarded. Students will receive a copy of their student grade transcript upon request.

There was a 2013 NYT op-ed article criticizing the prep schools as a scam. "There are two ways the military academies sneak in athletes who fail to meet their admissions standards. First, they all operate prep schools ... the prep schools ... are used for ... “redshirting” athletes — that is, stockpiling them for a year — when their high school records would prevent them from being admitted directly from high school."

Ellis is the guy for the fly sweep. I also think Lyons is also a good prospect. Not a knock on Nguyen, but I wish he would "stick his foot in the ground" more often.

Dalton Daum is the guy for the fly sweep. We will see that next year.

You might run more fly sweeps if your O line didn't get blown up ever other play.
Are you really in a position to talk shit after your own team just needed a huge comeback to beat Sac fucking State?

The EAGS just took control of the game in the second half and won. Good teams do that.
