Couple things:
1) as stated before in this thread, the words "academically ineligible " have not been mentioned in an official correspondence, and
2) it's been stated that the coaches and the team have known this was the case for a while, yet Murray has shown up in recent teams activities such as the run up Petes Hill.

Right now I believe that this internal to the team and is not elevated to the University or NCAA with respect to his academic eligibility. Until something official is put forth that says different, then Murray will get a true RS year and participate in all team activities. It may change, but as of now, that's my conclusion.
Don’t think so.
Being eligible is kind of like being pregnant. Either you are or you aren’t.
And you can’t hide it forever
You're probably right. I reread my post and it had a PR feel to it, and it caused a small dry heave. Bottom line: he's not getting the job done in the classroom and now he's not playing.
It happens. #metoo
As for the things like the run up Pee’s Hill, one way for you Cat People to keep it straight in your head would be to ask yourself if Chump could do it?
Could Chump run up Pee’s Hill with the team? Yeah probably.
Could Chump run the scout team O? I’m not sure your offense is a little weird to me, but I don’t think so.
So in a way Os’8 is your new Chump meow.

Well done on all of these great nicknames garizzlies, you’re on a roll on this thread. How do you come up with all of them? They’re great. I remember when my friends and I came up with similar nicknames and jokes, we thought we were so funny, 6th grade was a great time...

Without Murray I doubt the Cats beat the Griz the past 2 seasons. This is a stroke of good luck for Hauck and Co. Too bad for Murray - he was slowly developing his passing to go along with his sick running and making something out of nothing skills.

I agree. Murray is electric. His tremendous speed, quickness and instincts at this level are superior and super. UM couldn't defend him. The Cats seem to have more desire as a team too.

Agree Murray is a special talent, hope he can hang in and compete again for the cats. Reading the thread on bobcat nation the consensus seems to be that one of the younger qbs will take his spot. I see it like this Anderson will initially play lb and running back. They will eventually start calling halfback passes for him then have him take direct snaps in the backfield and finally when they absolutely have to complete a pass they will switch him to qb for that play. And finally when the season is on the brink they will switch him to their full time qb for the rest of the season. In the spring If choate is still there they will start their younger guys at qb in spring ball and try and move him back to rb/lb, and then the process will start over and continue for the next two years if choate is still around. That’s just like my opinion man.

CatsRcrap,
Awe shucks, man, I’m really sorry I hurt your feelers (read: whiskers). I need to learn to be more PC like Chache. You know: O’s ain’t “acedemically ineligibile.” He’s just taking a year off to focus on his schooling.
So sorrys. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart.
Normally you might get a response like, “if you don’t like it, you don’t have to read, or you can go back to CatScratchNation.” But not from me. I want you Cat People (notice the all-inclusive nature?) to be happy and keep posting here meow.

:thumb: Yep, about what I expected.

Except it’s already been stated in recent articles that he will NOT be allowed to participate in any team drills, practices, or activities. So there’s that.

“Now Murray will use the redshirt season he likely should’ve had if not for Bruggman’s struggles in his half a season as the starter. Choate said Murray will not practice or travel with the team, instead solely focusing “on this academic piece to get it right.”

Anyone who thinks this is something other than him being academically ineligible is only fooling himself

Also, I believe nothing grade-wise was official until this past Monday. Hence why he was participating in off-season workouts. Could be wrong on this but sounds like once they officially got the grades, the contingency plan was set in motion.

You are spot on. I saw Choate actually said “once the university made it official on Monday” or something like that. So I think up until Monday they still had their fingers crossed and were hopeful but then it became official he would not be able to play....whether that was ncaa benchmarks or MSU benchmarks for grades.

Again, bummer for Murray and the Cats. I thought Murray was a talent, who just needed to get better at passing. He obviously beat the Griz twice and had the Cats in, or on top of, some good games.

Maybe the 4~star guy, or someone, can step up. Hope they can, but not enough to beat the Griz.

Man, Murray must have really gotten himself in a hole in the spring, and maybe fall too, semester.

From what I heard, sounds like freshman year wasn't a great start. another advantage of a redshirt is getting your grades in line before playing in a ton of action and game study. huge advantage to play 4 with only 3 years of classes left. with summer classes that means usually 2-3 classes during the season. That's gotta be a huge help both on and off the field.

One positive, in my estimation, is that I no longer have to read the resident self-proclaimed "expert" belittle other posters as to which young men who play quarterback for the two flagship institutions in the state of Montana have more "experience" or which school, in the state of Montana that is, have played the game before and to what level is relevant.

But, I am certain, there will be other threads started and the room full of economists, lawyers, arm-chair quarterbacks (especially those who played the game so their opinion is by default more credible...lol) Fox News or CNN leaning "other" information specialists can argue and belittle other posters who would actually like to discuss football. This site has its own Steven A. Smith!!!!

On a happier note, only 50 days till kick off.
And today is my birthday.
Happy Birthday Rob.....
Thank you for remembering.
I was trying not to, getting too close to 60.
