People need to stop referring to it as a “redshirt year.” Especially Mr Chode. So misleading.
Redshirts get to practice, run scout team, etc. This year they get to play in 4 games. Os’8 can’t do any of that. He’s basically got the same team status as any of us. Hell Chump has more of a connection to the team than he does
I think it’s more accurate to say he was kicked off the team.
Yes the fact that they didn’t come out and call it what it is....academically eligible... is kind of a head scratcher. I have cat buddies who are saying things like “I’m so glad our coach puts academics first” and I’m trying to help them understand Choate did not have a choice. I agree, them making it look like some kind of forced red shirt to focus on academics is very misleading
Don’t really disagree with either of you on this. Pretty straight forward, although it’s interesting that the term academically ineligible has not actually appeared anywhere in the statements or interviews so far. Just that it’s an academic issue, and he’s taking the year off to focus on grades. Reading between the lines its pretty clear he’s ineligible, but why that word hasn’t specifically been used yet is unknown.
As far as RS goes, it’s not a traditional RS in the fact that he can’t participate in team activities and isn’t really a part of the team at all. But the fact that he has a RS available, I believe this would be counted as a de facto RS and he’d still have 2 years of eligibility IF he were to come back to the team.
If he had already used a RS and this happened, I believe he’d lose a year of eligibility and only have 1 year remaining IF he came back.
I don’t know the RS and eligibility rules well enough, so I could absolutely be wrong. That is just my understanding of it through talking to some friends about it. So before PR comes in and calls me an idiot for the 50th time, I’m not stating this as fact.
Anyone know if that’s the case or how that would play out for years remaining?
