Which one is UND? Is that the Bisons, or the one with the bird mascot?

UND are the Ruff Ryders. The subsidiary UNDSU are the Thunder Bisons, or "T-Buffs" for short.

Thank you for the clarification, CDA. And UNDSU plays in that indoor facility that hosts the annual Cheese Curd Festival?

Correct.

From Wiki:

North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, more commonly known as University of North Dakota State University (UNDSU), is a branch of the University of North Dakota that sits on a 25-acre campus in Fargo, in the U.S. state of North Dakota.

The bill founding North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) was signed on March 8, 1890, seven years after initial plans to start an agricultural college in the northern portion of the Dakota Territory.

University of North Dakota State University is not well known for many of its academic programs. Not many of NDSU's academic programs nationally known, but NDSU offers many unique degree programs including: Communication and Sugar Processing, Emergency Defibrillation, and Bovine Statistics.

UNDSU is divided into the following colleges:

Train Steering
Human Growth
Health Myths
Business Ethics
Food Systems & Preservatives
University Studies
Gravy Management

Thank you for the wiki excerpt. Huh. It almost seems like they could be a "feeder" school for the medical school at UND, which I take it is the flagship school in the state.

Thank you for this CDA! On a purely academic level, it could be argued that UNDSU is best known for it's research in textiles, especially their landmark development of "stretchy" denim and sugar beet stain resistant rayon.

Don't forget their seminal work during NASA's Apollo program. "Grang" was the gravy our boys were able to consume in space. Many believe it would have been a huge commercial success if it didn't so closely resemble semi-solid feces.

UND knows that NDSU, which hasn't scheduled a home and home for a decade, has been part of an MVFC block. NDSU doesn't want to play at UND because that will cause UND football to have a major spike in season tickets and corporate advertising, and NDSU's former President and AD wanted to see us starved financially.

UND dropped baseball purposely to make us less appealing for the Slummit, which needs baseball teams to keep its basketball autobid.

What the end result of this play will be is a reorganization of the WAC and Big Sky.

Sometime soon, the WAC will propose trading UVU, GCU, Bakersfield and Seattle with UND, UNC, the Montanas, Idaho, and E Wash. With six FCS teams, that will assure aa autobid for football. The remaining WAC teams would be NMSU, UMKC, UTRGV, and Chicago St. Highly doubt that Chicago State will be DI or even be open after this school year, as their budget crisis resulted in mass transfers, few new students, and many professor layoffs.

The WAC can still offer FBS spots per NCAA regs, as any conference that was FBS can offer new ones.

After the announcement, Wichita St will get an offer for football only, as it wants to build up its entire program to get into the American with Tulsa and SMU.

Around 2020, all the teams will be transitioning to FBS, except UMKC of course and UNC, which will stay FCS and go back to the Big Sky.

The WAC may invite other teams too, like Sam Houston St, Lamar, which want FBS, Mo St, which wants to follow Wichita St, and Denver, which was an FBS league though it will never have football.

I'm sure this will be picked apart, especially by PR.

UND is only pleading poverty to get a new revamped more eastern WAC with Big Sky schools. The WAC will be mostly research schools which will be a plus and has been talked about by numerous BSC Ad's that a research division is coming.

This will greatly satisfy politicians in ND who don't want UND in a conference with half the teams in the southwest.

The schools in the new WAC want to be part of the negotiations for a new CFP. Being an FBS conference will give them that right again, and maybe get much more than $2 mill if the CFP goes to eight teams starting in 2025.

Is this guy for real???

Who wouldnt want to be a part of that conference.....it would probably be renamed to Montana & the Dick Cheese Conf

UND has assigned a committee to drop sports and determine which conference to join. IMHO, that means that a WAC or Big Sky option choice will be available to all the WAC and Big Sky schools. Choosing the WAC means that your football program is aspirational. Most of the west coast schools will choose the Big Sky. UND needs to cut sports to afford FBS and it definitely would need a remodeled larger stadium on campus. It carried way too many sports from its DII days.

The WAC will die soon if it doesn't get schools to move over. A revitalized WAC is a ticket to FBS. Engstrom and Cruzado are ready to pounce.

When it comes to moving up to the FBS talk I really only think that the Montanas should ever consider joining the Mountain West Conference personally. That being said if the WAC turned out to be a viable option the only way this would work is if both Montana schools and the Dakota State schools were on board with the move.

What evidence do you have to support that? Watching the Griz as long as I have, I would say UM is more likely to stay FCS forever than join the FBS ranks.

Engstrom has never been ready to pounce on anything his entire life!

No. Dakota needs to be in that conference. They needed the Big Sky as a temporary place to land when their conference blew up. The Big Sky accommodated them. Now they should do what's necessary and move into the Missouri Valley where they always belonged.

There has been a rumor for a long time that UND would have a huge donation for an on campus remodeled stadium from a former football player who started a gold mine in Canada, sold it for billions, and has his own Caribbean island where he lives part time. That was one of the reason that the Montanas wanted UND to begin with in the Sky.

Wichita St will go FBS, and they won't touch the MVFC because they don't want to be seen as a JV program. The WAC will invite them for football only. Mo St wants to be like Wichita St and they will also join fb only. They both want the American eventually, but the American won't take new FBS programs.

UTRGV has Mack Brown on a committee that is tasked with starting football. UTRGV is planning to get to 40k enrollment soon, and there is a million people around Harlingen-Edinburgh-Brownsville. Edinburgh is planning to expand their minor league soccer field from 8k to 24k when UTRGV goes FBS.

E Wash is planning to build a new stadium now, as they want to keep up with the Montanas. Idaho will drop down for a time and then go back up.

Chicago St will need to drop out of DI soon, as a student body of 3k can't afford DI. Other WAC schools will leave.

Big Sky schools that have any aspirations of being FBS need to move to the WAC soon. The BSC can offer GCU, UVU, Bakersfield, and Seattle spots when some fb schools leave.

UMKC knew all along that this would happen and they want the WAC bball tournament. NMSU will still likely be there and Denver would likely jump back when the undesirables have left the WAC. NMSU wants more Texas presence for students and athletes, so they are probably pushing for Sam Houston St and Lamar to join, both of which want FBS.

The league will start off as an FCS one, but transition probably around 2020 to FBS.

So the first step is for the WAC to be reborn as an FCS conference and then transition to FBS. The WAC would be eligible for the new CFP payout in 2025, which would likely be much more than $1 MILL per school.

NDSU's former President and AD were staunchly against UND getting in the MVFC, as that would have gained UND too much corporate money by season tickets and advertising and corporate suites. NDSU still won't schedule a home and home with UND because they want and need UND football to financially starve. NDSU is not exactly a kind hearted neighbor, as much of Egriz believes. They only scheduled you and Weber St home and home because it doesn't hurt their recruiting, ticket sales, or advertising rates.

How can they do that to their own main campus?

It's in Cruzado's and Engstrom's court. The MWC wouldn't take both Montanas and both would be well out of budget range for it.

The WAC would be similar schools, and budget FBS budgets, and mostly research schools. The BSC has been pushing a research division for an unknown reason and it expanded way beyond the number ten for a reason.qq

He pounced on that offer from the Justice Department pretty quickly.

The GRIZ would seriously consider -- and almost certainly accept -- an offer from the MWC. They will not move to a new "WAC", or any other FBS-in-name-only conference.
