Stitt really gets the "in-state" component; it isn't that MSU is a particular competitive threat on the field, but it has been for recruiting. Stitt aims to shut that down, it certainly happened this year, and he understands why it has to, and will, happen in the future. He aims to ensure that MSU becomes a third-class program by choking off the Montana air supply. Gathering from Ash's bitter remarks today, Ash gets it too. I think it sunk in to Ash today that he can't stay in the game against Stitt.

I was listening to a recap of Pac 12 recruits tonight and Rick Neuheisel said that both Oregon and Washington State University did not sign kids from their own states today. He suggested that both missed how important it is to recruit your state.

I can easily understand Oregon not signing Oregon kids but Washington State? Where are they getting their recruits? Are they focusing on the tri-state hotbeds of Idaho, South Dakota and Alaska?

Think a big issue with Wazzu is that they fired the 2 coaches that recruited Washington, Breske and Eric Russell. The kid they did have decommited and they lost traction with the rest.

You might be right but Rick Neuheisel wasn't. I looked it up and they got a kid from Pasco. Looks like a lot of California kids.

Please don't let the Calhoun brothers become the Kessman brothers or the Rodamer brothers. That just seems to happen to the Griz too often when the player is tagged with the term "3-star"
They are not listed on gogriz.com Does anyone have a clue as to what the story is?

They signed their LOI late in the day at a school ceremony and gogriz.com did not update.
thanks for the info, I'm hoping for great things from these two!

I met Coach Stitt, what a positive, humble, and confident coach. Very impressed with him. Great to see see and hear from Mike Ferriter and Andrew Selle. They will bleed GRIZ for their whole life. Coach Stitt took a lot of time talking about the MT kids. He had great things to say about every recruit.
That is so great to hear. And to do something like this in Kalispell; this really makes it feel like "Montana's Team." People are attracted to sports because of great stories. This is one of them. A beloved coach, retiring at the top of his career. A quarterback who should never have had to go through what he did, rising above it all for a successful final season.

A new coach who just "gets it," all of it, comes in, and in one month makes a sweep of recruiting over an established rival, and has everyone talking, all across the state. I often talk in terms of Washington-Grizzly being a "movie moment" set, against that mountain, the photo of Chase Reynolds diving across the goal line, in a blizzard under the lights, hanging on my office wall. Steven Spielberg, eat your heart out.

Stitt is right, he's getting the kids who, from moments like that, wanted to be Griz all their lives. They have bled maroon before they ever got on campus, and don't underestimate what they can do for a team. He doesn't.

Who was the the player a couple years ago who claimed to have signed and the coaches said they had never heard of him? That was bizarre

I think that was a QB who was tweeting how excited he was to be a Griz a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a huge mystery.. I cant remember the kids name though.

Gotta love the passion! The kid is walking on from So Cal...his family all decked out in Griz Gear!

Is Lind from Orange Lutheran ? Jon Talmage is one of the main connections at Orange Lutheran high school. :thumb:

Jon Talmage thought he might follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a fireman, but after a change of heart he decided to go into law enforcement instead. Talmage, who played wide receiver for the Montana Grizzlies from 2002 through 2005 following a redshirt year, lives in Orange, Calif., and recently completed his first week on the job with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. . . . Three years ago he also started coaching football at his former high school, Orange Lutheran, so that’s how he maintains his connection to football. “Every day I go out there and still get to throw the ball around and have fun with the kids,” Talmage said, adding that the invitation came from guys he had played with in high school who are coaching as well.

Kyle Sample just tweeted both Calhoun brothers committed to play for the Griz

Please be true

OK, I'll bite. No doubt they're fine young men but why are we excited about the Calhoun brothers? What is know about either of them? Thanks in advance. :ugeek:
Jeremy is a 3-star RB that had scholarship offers from Colorado St., Navy and Nevada, with interest from several Pac12 schools.

His brother was also recruited by a few FBS schools.

Not bad.

The Calhoun twins were legacy recruits at Colorado State, because there dad was a standout for the Rams.

Jason said,"Rather walkon at my dream school then play for free at a school I don't want to go to."

 RIGHT ON JASON :!:

Gotta love this tweet on signing day by the Butte Missle, former Griz walk-on Colt Anderson of the Indianapolis Colts:

Congrats to all the @UMGRIZZLIES_FB signees, as well as those who r walking on. In life all u need is a chance! Go Griz! #WeAreMontana

I heard this guy will also be announcing his verbal commitment to play football for the griz. I'm guessing it will be on tonight's evening news.

Tyree Range settled on San Diego St. He doesn't yet know that he'll get a scholarship or preferred walk-on status.

Pac12 teams lost interest after he tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus. He underwent surgery on Jan 1st.

Not sure that I feel bad about losing him anymore. Unfortunate.

Turned down offers from CSU & Idaho (& us!) to walk-on at SDSU.

To paraphrase the Bible, "All things work for good for those that love the Griz".
