Good job on the research of the state prelims, but you are showing the worst race ha had all year. The fact remains that he consistently ran much faster all year previously and did post the fastest time next to Daum's last year.

Having effective "football speed" in full pads is a whole different story.

Exactly and I don't see why they don't have these guys do tryouts, evaluations, etc in pads. It is a much more accurate indicator of how good on the field they will be. :thumb:

Kessler Leonard I hear from GFH is interested in the griz.. played both ways this season for the bison

he put up good numbers this season I think the griz coaches should take a look

State champion wrestler too.

I got a chance to see Kessler Leonard in action Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tourney in Missoula. He was listed at 6' and 175 during the football season which I would guess was pretty accurate. He is competing at 160 pounds this wrestling season. He is very well-built for a tall 160 pounder. He won his championship match pretty easily by taking down his opponent, letting them up, and taking them down again throughout the match. I was impressed by how quick he is. Tough kid, would love to see him play for the griz if he has good speed. Does anybody know how fast Kessler is?

His father mentioned he is hoping to know where he's playing college football in the next week or so.

Montana's new wide receivers coach Mike Ferriter has contacted his cousin, Montana State commit and Butte Central DE Marcus Ferriter last week. Mike told Marcus if any of UM's current verbals fall through, Montana has a full scholarship for Marcus. I can't imagine he wouldn't take it as Montana State has offered him no money. I'm not sure if Woody Brandom's scholarship was open when Mike made this call or no

You are wrong, the state prelims was not his worst race he had all year, far from it. The fact remains he did not run much faster all year previously. That 10.93 was hand timed, and doesn't rhyme with his other hand timed times...

Only the state times are electronic.

I stand corrected...he did have slower times...a lot of these are relative to the speed of the track that day and other athlete's results in that meet and race, though.
My point was - It seems as though you are trying to refute Logan's avg speed and it sounds like you are indicating that he isn't even in the top 10 fastest prep boys in MT. If that is your point, that is absurd, he has shown that he has the speed capability that is only 2nd to Daum.
And, you say "That 10.93 was hand timed...Only the state times are electronic" - where did you get that information?.I don't think I have been to a varsity meet that was not electronic timed.
Other points...
- He is probably the fastest kid to 40-50 yards - explosive - since there is no race of that length, you would only know by watching in person.
- Track speed is a good indicator, but doesn't necessarily translate to football speed...his quick cutting ability is unparalleled, especially in traffic. He is known among teammates and other prep players as "the fastest kid in pads in the state".
- He relishes contact...ideally, he will try to slice through traffic, but will gladly take on a tackler if needed...he is an excellent downfield blocker - he has sprung other runners/receivers for additional yards multiple times and had de-cleated more than a couple would be tacklers.
- He is relentless...he will not give up on additional yards, even after contact, until it is impossible to go any further.

This is just my humble and admittedly biased opinion. You are welcome to your opinion on who would and wouldn't be good fits at this level. I challenge you to watch film on him and find anybody other MT athlete's film that is nearly as impressive in traffic and after contact.

Logan Jones is a good player for sure. His size is a negative though. Here is what he ran in the preliminary state meet for the 100 last year. He did not make it into the finals (fastest 10).

Thank you for your rousing words Mrs. Jones

Love for Logan Jones to be a griz, he would fit very well in here. Might have to walk on, but look at a lot of Griz that have walked on and become all americans, received a scholarship later, and even playing on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Jones is another kid I have watched from the other side for several years. Really good player. Very athletic. Never takes a play off. Would love to see him in a Griz uniform next year!!

Logan Jones is faster than Holden Ryan and Josh Sandry however.

I realize it's common knowledge, but track speed <> football speed, and vice versa....

Good job on the research of the state prelims, but you are showing the worst race ha had all year. The fact remains that he consistently ran much faster all year previously and did post the fastest time next to Daum's last year.

Thank you for your rousing words Mrs. Jones

Glad to hear you found the content of my words inspiring, Mr. "Head".
I will make no bones about it...I am from Kalispell and am very fond of The Jones family, Logan, and his abilities (as I alluded to by mentioning it was my biased opinion). But, I am not a member of the Jones family (certainly not a "Mrs. Jones" as you noted - unfortunately Logan's mom passed away 9 or 10 years ago and the other Jones woman who largely raised him, his grandmother, passed away last spring). I clarify this because I don't want my "pro Logan propaganda" post to cause their family any embarrassment because people, like you, might jokingly or seriously hint that it is coming from one of them.
I don't know why it should matter, though, as this message board is filled with comments from posters who are high on this this athlete or that athlete. Granted, many of them are independent opinions on athletes they don't know, but I am certain there are plenty of comments on here about athletes from posters who do know them.

I totally trust this and all other Griz coaches the past 20 years to get the kids who will make this team a winner in the class room and the football field. Kids like Marc Mariani, Colt Anderson, and the many other Montana kids, who walked on to this program and later earned full ride is part of our legacy. The love of this program and their desire to beat the cats 24 of the past 29 years was their driving force to walk on. This process allows the Griz to bring in the quote unquote the big time players from out of state. Interestingly enough more of the Montana players end up on an NFL roster than the big time recruits from out of state, many of them were walk ons.

He has the potential to shine as a slot receiver in Stitt's offense. Looks like he has a lot of drive, motor always going. Hope he becomes a Griz.

Track speed is straight line speed.
"Football speed" is straight line and lateral speed.

Having effective "football speed" in full pads is a whole different story.

Exactly and I don't see why they don't have these guys do tryouts, evaluations, etc in pads. It is a much more accurate indicator of how good on the field they will be. :thumb:

They do have evaluations in pads, ect. It's called their (annual) football camp. That is where Holden Ryan, for example, received his full ride offer by Delaney in 2013.
